Social Profile:

In the rip-roaring days of early Wyoming, the saloon at the Occidental Hotel was famous far and wide. In the barroom, the lawful and the lawless played faro and poker… flirted with pretty ladies… drank copious quantities of powerful spirits… and occasionally shot up the place. One visitor in the early days called the Occidental Saloon a regular gambling hell, where high-stakes poker games sometimes continued for days. In 1908, the original rough barroom was replaced with one of the most elegant saloons in Wyoming. An imposing back bar with stained glass accents was installed, along with an intricately embossed tin ceiling, and impressive period decorations everywhere. All of this has been preserved and restored, for you to admire

This hotel in saloon was quite an experience. It wasn’t old it was eerie. The attendant that was working, there was very friendly, but the energy in this establishment felt slightly spooky. It was buzzing with historical figures that it had brawls and gun fights, maladies and so much of the wild West experiences. The taxidermy was a lot to take, which can be difficult for a vegetarian to fathom. However, it was quite a little museum and the first thing that I noticed was it seemed like it was lively with perhaps paranormal activity. Immediately I shared this with my husband and googled it. I stand corrected. It is notably haunted. Regardless, it was amazing! Notable figures like Calamity Jane, Teddy Roosevelt, wild Bill have all frequented this old saloon hotel. I recommend it if you’re looking for a historic little saloon from the wild West. I’m giving this five stars because it had that much of an impact and it is definitely something I will never forget.

This western saloon is as authentic as it gets—old-school, traditional, and packed with character. The walls are lined with mounted animals and fascinating historical photos, giving it that true classic Western vibe. We visited on a Thursday and were treated to live music, which made the whole evening feel incredibly organic and memorable.

The food was excellent! We ordered the flatbread pizza, chicken pot pie, and country fried steak—all delicious and hearty. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip, and I would 100% recommend coming here for the experience.

The only downside was the service, which was very slow and not attentive at all. Still, despite that, the saloon itself is fantastic, and I would absolutely come back again.

We just rolled in late, mad our way from Montgomery, TX. Making our way to Montana. What a gem ✨️ this place was. Been on the road for about 11 hours. To our surprise had this dual guitar playing live some classic hits.
The food was amazing ! Had the bison burger & coleslaw and my husband had the western burger & fries!
Atmosphere was perfect for us.

This place was awesome. Stefan the bartender was so nice. We chatted for a while then had our beers and a bison burger and chili. Both were good. The place is a historical landmark that is worth stopping to see

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at this restaurant — it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. From the moment we walked in, we were transported back in time. The place is designed like a genuine Old West saloon, complete with taxidermy animals mounted on the walls, vintage wooden furniture, and a stunning antique bar that looks like it came straight out of a classic Western film.

But this place isn’t just a restaurant — it’s an experience. Attached to the saloon is a small private store filled with unique, local items, and there’s also a charming bed and breakfast upstairs, beautifully decorated with authentic period furnishings. We later learned that the building itself has a fascinating history: in the past, it was actually an old brothel. Today, it’s been transformed into one of the most unique and memorable establishments we’ve ever visited.

The food was simply outstanding — rich in flavor, perfectly cooked, and made with obvious care. Without exaggeration, it was some of the best food we’ve had during our time in America. The portions were generous, and the prices were more than fair.

What truly made the experience unforgettable, though, was the incredible hospitality. Our waitress was beyond kind — warm, welcoming, and genuinely passionate about the place. She offered to give us a private tour of the saloon, during which she shared fascinating stories about the building’s colorful past and the town’s history. She even showed us some hidden corners and quirky features we never would’ve noticed on our own.

We left feeling both full and inspired, with big smiles on our faces. It wasn’t just a meal — it was a journey into a different era, rich with character and charm. If you ever find yourself anywhere near this place, stopping by isn’t just recommended — it’s a must.

Unfortunately I visited the bar around 11:30 AM and it was not yet open for service. However, fortunately the hotel allowed access to the bar to observe the Wild West decor, the numerous preserved heads of western creatures, and the many historic photos of old west history. If passing through Buffalo, I recommend stopping by for a visit. And, if you’re lucky you’ll be there at a time when you can sample the grub and grog.

Had dinner on our way through town. Friendly and fantastic service! We tried the chicken fried steak and the special was a flat iron steak with shrimp. Both were incredibly tasty! Lovely historic decor and atmosphere. A bit pricey but well worth the quality of food.
