Obscurity Brewing is a decent enough spot, though it doesn’t quite live up to the hype of being a destination-worthy “hidden gem”. If you find yourself in the Elburn area after apple picking or a local event, it serves its purpose as a reliable, casual hangout.
The Beer & Mead: The selection is varied,However, the quality can be hit-or-miss; while the aromas on their IPAs are often fantastic, some flagship pours can taste a bit flat or thin on the palate.
The Food: The BBQ is decent, but definitely over-hyped The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches are flavorful and generously portioned. The spicy cheese curds were a delicious surprise
The Vibe: The atmosphere is “trendy-casual,” but it can get incredibly loud and crowded, especially with large groups and families. While they are kid-friendly with high chairs and crayons, the noise level often makes it hard to have a conversation.
Service: Service is generally friendly.
Bottom Line: It’s a solid local pub with good BBQ, but if you’re a die-hard mead fan there may not be a selection, you might not feel the need to make a special trip back.

Obscurity has a lot of unique beers and good BBQ available. The beer was very good and so was the food. The midwest street corn didnt hit the spot for me, but the turkey and pulled pulk were very good. The bartender was so friendly and helpful. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available.

Found Obscurity while we were out and about on the bike. Love this place. The whole place was in an open format with painted walls, bar area, eatery area, outdoor seating and an industrial area. They also have a mug club. Super casual with really good food.

Solid beer and excellent food! Lots of great barbecue options, but the build-your-own grilled cheese is INCREDIBLE.

Anna and Constance at the bar were welcoming and ready to offer draft samples. The brisket was salty and tender and paired perfectly with the berry cider.

I was in town for business, and my grandmother happens to live in town, so swung by for a quick visit. She recommend I try this place. I got the pulled pork, she got the oven roasted chicken (I think they call it). It was early on a weekday, so they were slow. I bet this place is packed on nights/weekends. Looks like a fun time anyway. They have quite a lot to offer here and the service was great. Unfortunately, the pulled pork was like a sloppy Joe. Wasn’t shredded pork, as typical pulled pork sandwiches are. That put me off, unfortunately, as I had a high expectation after hearing about how great they are and seeing the atmosphere. Maybe they make it this way or maybe they made me the wrong sandwich. Either way I couldn’t eat it, not a fan. The fries were delicious and my grandmother’s meal was also amazing! The potato salad was delicious as well. Would still revisit!

We’ve been here previously though it’s been a few years. We always loved the mac & cheese with brisket. So we got that. And the ribs. And I’d rate our overall experience is disappointed. I mean overall the flavors were pretty good, but the mac & cheese was very dry. there was hardly any cheese in it at all. And the ribs were kind of strange like maybe I don’t know older or mealy. Again the flavor of the sauces and overall was good, but we won’t go back. If the server had come by and asked about the meal, how we liked it earlier rather than at the very end and just asked how are you doing? I would’ve given an honest answer. But at this point, I’m sharing my honest answer here and we won’t go back. If a server can’t be concerned enough (and it wasn’t even that busy) to come by and see how the food is being enjoyed after it’s served That’s one bad sign. The other is the quality of the food. The mac & cheese used to be amazing. This was not. We will not return. We do not recommend it.

Nice family friendly place for tasty bar food. Out of ribs early on a Saturday evening so we had burnt ends (delish) brisket was good and pork sandwich was just ok. Great hard cider. Service was good, considering how busy they were.

Passing through the area and stopped in. Smelled excellent from their smoked meats but we didn’t eat. They were serving lackluster beers in plastic cups. The service got the job done, nothing more. They do have pinball machines!
