Good: Ramen broth, protein, and veggies were amazing. The noodles however didn’t fit the flavor profile that everything else was asking for.

Atmosphere: sign into your own steam account to play games. There’s some hardware that can be used or rented, but if you’re picky you might want to bring your own.

People: lmao

Great food! The chicken sliders are delicious. Great atmosphere, friendly bartenders. If you are a fan of video games/anime come take a seat at the bar, watch anime, eat great food, and meet some people. You wont regret it.

Very saddened by the alarming dispatching of Obscura from my neighborhood. I can say, for the ma y times I went, I left for lack of seating. It was just that good; always busy. I went aboyt 4 weeks ago to find the place emptied. I hope the new location suits them better. It won’t suit me better as it’s not three blocks away. I will make the trip occasionally though. The chill atmosphere will be missed on King. Hopefully, the new place will allow you to not jab people for a cup of water. You have a sink, you have a faucet, you have cups. Quit jacking you patrons.

Unwanted Patron – I tried to give this place an honest go, but it feels like I’m not wanted here the more I visit. My first few visits were awkard because I didn’t know which computers were being reserved for the cafe’s events.

I had hoped to “find my tribe” here. A group of like-minded gaming enthusiasts who want to nerd out over video games, but it just feels like I’m being met with the worst judgment there time after time.

Over time, I’ve experienced some luke warm to some ice cold respones by the staff. Because of this I’ve tried to keep my interactions to a mininum, and just focus on the video games to show/signal, “Hey this is why I’m here… video games, nothing else.” Sadly my attempts at virtue signaling/gesturing were in vain.

This is still a great place to go though, don’t get me wrong. I mean there’s good food, anime playing on three TV screens, cold drinks a plenty, oh and video games, tons of videos games. If you don’t have your own Steam account you’re able to play plenty of pre-downloaded games on the computers there. Need a controller? They can supply one (terms and conditions apply[reasonable ones].)

Most of the other gamers there are cool, but you will catch an off the cuff remark or two about you, but I suppose that’s most places.

If you’re there, then at a certain point there will be a strong scent from what I assume to be a combination of hookah smoke and vapes, but sometimes it feels like someone is standing right behind me exhaling the stuff against the back of my head, to the point where my eyes get watery.

There’s just a general vibe of unwelcome here. Once, while at the bar there was an overweight POC who came in. They stopped and asked the barkeep if they could use the restroom, some places want you to buy something before you use the restrooms, so that’s normal enough. What was strange was that this POC told them the nature of their intended business in the restroom, #1 or #2. The barkeep reluctantly and slowly nodded their approval. Had this guy been denied use of the bathroom before?

My feeling, is that just POC knew or perhaps anticipated some discrimination because of their appearance and wanted to signal to this staff member that just because of their size they wouldn’t wreak havoc on the bathroom. So, depending on what you look like you may feel those type of acted upon assumptions should you visit.

All and all, despite my uneven experience there I would still recommend visiting. Just be sure to go WITH SOMEONE then you’ll be fine.

Good luck!
