So, we heard about this place from my husband‘s barber! I would love to say that the food was gosh are amazing! And we loved our waiter that looks like John F. Kennedy Junior! Give him some props! All in all the food was great coming back for sure! Thank you guys. It was delicious.

Tonight we just wanted to get takeout and stay home. Usually we eat at the restaurant and order more than pizza but sometimes you have to make difficult choices on how food travels versus eaten right when it comes out. Therefore, I had to forgo my chicken wings, eggplant fries and cinnamon sugar fried dough. I highly recommend it!

Service was great at pickup and sitting at the bar waiting for the pies was a treat with a couple of drinks. The restaurant is casual, modern decor and clean. I’m not a huge pizza fan like most people but I do love their pizzas, especially the Detroit style! Their food is super tasty. I’ve been eating here since they opened and I haven’t had a bad dish.

My experience here at Oakland was sensational. My family ordered a Detroit Pie, and it was incredible. We are from Long Island NY, so we know Pizza. Oakland is the best Pizza in CT. Also, our Waitress, Jules, was extremely polite and helpful. She was kind, and very sweet to my kids. She helped make our experience enjoyable.

Today I had the honor of sharing lunch with The Slice Mob—a group of lifelong friends who travel Connecticut in search of the best pizza the state has to offer. Today’s feast took place at Oakland Pizza Co. in South Windsor, a cozy, no-frills spot that gives off classic pizza joint vibes. It’s the kind of place that welcomes everyone—from loyal regulars to crust-obsessed aficionados and everyone in between.

The staff was pleasant and professional, and believe me—dealing with seven hungry guys ordering nine pizzas and apps is enough to test the patience of even the most saintly among us. Respect.

For those who follow me, you know I always start with the basics—a true test of any great pizzeria. No gimmicks, no distractions. Just dough, sauce, and cheese. So I kicked it off with the plain Detroit-style. This pie did not disappoint.

Let’s talk crust: thick, but light, airy, and tender, yet sturdy enough to hold that glorious sauce and cheese. A true feat of gluten genius. It was incredibly soft to chew, with a balanced, clean flavor. The sauce? Pure and simple. Not over-seasoned. Just the right touch of salt to let the tomatoes shine—a perfect sweet-acidic balance. The cheese? A generous layer of shredded mozzarella that melted into a gooey dream, stretching for inches.

But the best part? The frico. (Not an Italian swear word—I promise.) That glorious crispy, caramelized cheese that forms around the edge when mozzarella hits the hot pan. It’s crunchy, cheesy gold. This was easily one of the best Detroit-style pizzas I’ve ever eaten.

Next up: I went spicy (ya baby!) with the Spicy Roni, made on a thin crust that lives somewhere between New Haven and Neapolitan styles. I’m starting to think this hybrid deserves its own name—maybe “East of the River” style—since I keep finding it at pizzerias east of the Connecticut River.

The crust was thin with a beautifully crisp undercarriage, thick enough to support generous toppings, yet thin enough to give that perfect crunch. The cornicione (fancy word for crust) was airy with a tender chew, and again, perfectly seasoned.

This pie was topped with fresh mozzarella over a killer tomato sauce, then loaded with crisped-up, cupped pepperoni, sliced onions, and hot peppers. The contrast was incredible—light and airy crust, crunchy spicy ‘roni, the sweetness of the onions, the kick from the peppers, and that warm, gooey mozzarella pulling it all together.

Two totally different styles. Two perfectly executed experiences. The doughs are fermented differently. The toppings are applied differently. The baking methods? Night and day. But the one thing they share in common? They were both outstanding.

It takes real skill to master one style of pizza. Oakland has mastered two. I tip my toque to the team.

If you haven’t tried Oakland Pizza yet… what are you waiting for?
You won’t be disappointed.

And remember: Pizza is life. See you at the next slice

Overall, it was fine, but they had a great tasting sauce, and there was barely any on my pizza. Also, the sign said bar, and they had no rum. the waitress was great and place looked great.

Picked up two regular pies and a Detroit from Oakland Pizza for a get-together, and WOW absolute hit. The Detroit was the fan favorite of the night, and the hot honey wings disappeared in minutes. Grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting on the order and it did not disappoint. Great food, great vibes, and seriously one of the best pizza spots around. Highly recommend!

We decided to order take out and decided to try thin pizza. We’ve ordered pizza many times to complement the major sports events we gather to watch on TV.

The thin pizza did not disappoint. In my opinion it’s the tastiest pizza take out pizza we’ve ordered in the area. Oven baked just right with some hints of slightly well done crust and Full of flavour but not so filling that you can eat a few slices with room for dessert.

Definitely going to soon dine in at their location here in South Windsor.

Only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the pizza was decent.

Apart from that, the service was absolutely terrible. Ordered a large burrata margarita & instagram special however after a 20 min wait (reasonable), they brought us the wrong pizza. Instead of a margarita, we received another one. I began to eat my instagram special while my wife waited. We had to wait an additional 15 mins to receive the correct pizza.

As a matter of fact, we never even ended up getting the burrata margarita (premium) but rather got a basic margarita but just accepted it anyhow because we didn’t want to wait another 15-20 to get our dinner.

We basically ate seperately which took away from our experience. Not to mention, our request for side dips and chili oil were ignored numerous times until we eventually gave up.

Unfortunately, would not return to give business to Oakland Pizza co after this experience and would not recommend to anyone. This ruined our Friday night outing.

Im going to echo some of the issues already mentioned. I got the thin crust bada bing. First It’s definitely on the small side of large. The crust is very good and the sauce is very good too but barely any there. It’s like it was put on with a basteing brush. When you look at the toppings in the description you would rightly assume there going be somewhere in sight. Unfortunately not. Then upon eating, all I tasted was the banana peppers. Skimpy amount of cheese though I did see two pieces of salami, no pepperoni no capicola or cherry peppers in sight or in taste. If I opened the box and didn’t know I would say it was a cheese pizza with not enough cheese. What is a shame is they have the two most difficult pizza ingredients nailed…the crust and sauce. Like they said in A Bronx Tale “there’s nothing worse than wasted potential”. Oh and skip the hot honey. It’s got no place on this pie.
