The Original Architecture in the plantation house, now known as The Oak Tree Tavern, was the work of Thomas Day, an American furniture craftsman and cabinetmaker in Milton, Caswell County, North Carolina. Born into a free Black family in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, Day moved to Milton in 1817 and became a highly successful businessman, boasting the largest and most productive workshop in the state during the 1850s.

Last night, my wife and I had dinner at your restaurant. The food was excellent, albeit a little slow, but it was certainly worth the wait. During our meal, I inquired whether your establishment would be open on Sunday night, and a server assured me that it would be. Based on this information, my wife and I made plans to return tonight, inviting a few friends who had traveled some distance to join us for dinner.
However, upon arriving at your restaurant this evening, we were disappointed to find that it was closed. This was not the first time I have experienced such a situation, where I was informed that your restaurant would be open only to arrive and find it closed. This inconsistency is frustrating, especially after making plans around the assurance that your establishment would be operating.

I have been going to the Tavern during my VIR visits at least a couple times each year since 2018. The experience that I get here is usually pretty inconsistent, sometimes the food is quite good, other times not so much. They do have a rotating menu which is constantly changed year to year, they used to have a garden salad that could have a blackened salmon with a special balsamic glaze added to it which was phenomenal, I wish they would keep that consistently on the menu. Burgers are usually pretty good, steaks can be overcooked at times but usually pretty good as well. The biggest improvement they could make is to have some consistency with their food.
The venue itself is incredible, its beautiful there! The atmosphere of being at VIR is hard to beat.
Service for me has always been really good, never had any issues with our servers or getting food in a timely manner.

Well this place has ok food i won’t say its the best because its far from it in my opinion I was there this past weekend with my race team and they have the slowest service I have ever in my life dealt with if there was another restaurant around I probably would have gone to that one and got up and left from this one we had been waiting for an hour and 19 minutes (yes I timed it) for our food ..waited too long to wait at any restaurant only got there at 7:49 and it was after 9 when we got our food they seemed to be under staff you would think they would be prepared for the crown knowing that’s it’s a race events or special events going on…. Here’s a picture of my food was supposed to marinated mushroom with asparagus risotto there was not one single asparagus in sight and this was a $17 dish… I must say I have definitely had better service I do think that they need to do better especially for their prices because it’s not worth it in my opinion… on a different note it is cozy and welcoming..

Never going back. Got there right at open with a buddy and our two sons. Sat in bar area. Ordered around 6:10. had a couple beers and then time stood still. No food at 7 but then noticed no one else was getting their food either. Then at 7:30 lots of people have food on their tables included folks who got there after we did. I went and had to be a Karen at 7:45. Manager said she would work on it. Waitress came by at 7:55 and said food would be to us in 7 minutes. No food at 8:02. Told the manager we were leaving and that we weren’t gonna pay for drinks and we walked out. I’m about as by the book as they come but no one to that point offered to comp anything and there was no way I was going to give them a cent. My buddy who recommended the place felt bad since it was his idea. It’s really too bad because the rest of the trip to VIR was awesome and every other aspect of the operation seems to run efficiently.

This restaurant does not have a voicemail, doesn’t answer calls or respond to Google’s Reserve A Table option. I will be at VIR on April 5, 2025 and wanted to reserve a table for a group of 12 people. I’ve tried on multiple occasions to call during business hours. I get it, if you’re busy you may be unable to take calls, then have a voicemail set up! And if your Google settings are such that you offer the ‘Reserve A Table’ option, then it needs to be responded to! Do better!! I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Amber and Sara have been LIFESAVING for the past 4 days while in town at VIR. Traveling from California, there’s not much here but this and this is the jackpot.
These 2 girls RUN THE SHOW. amazing characters, personalities, business women.
They took care of our party of 5 to 30 people.
I can’t thank them and the chef staff enough. Our dinners were made because of them. Our service was outstanding, quick, amazing.

We had 6 people. Restaurant is a lovely restored 1800’s house. Seating area was very nice. Service was great. Smaller list of main dishes. 2 ordered the fried chicken, perfect. 2 ordered the chicken pie – very tasty with a tender fluffy crust. Great selection of regional beers. Liked the butter toasted bread with apple butter for desert.
