If you are looking for the perfect combination of stellar dishes and stunning views, Oak Steakhouse is the place for you. We stayed for my birthday and ate dinner and brunch and was not disappointed! The staff is friendly and conversational! We had the filet. It was cooked perfectly! For brunch, we had breakfast poutine, stuffed hash browns, the country fried steak, and the crueller for dessert. Met a sever at the bar and we said what the hell we will check it out for brunch. Lucky we did everything was amazing from the check-in with the hostess, the servers, the time we got our food and even the restrooms were spotless. Maybe we got lucky but the place wasn’t crazy busy. A hidden gem nestled in the Smokey Mountains. Our server Shannon was phenomenal: she was very knowledgeable about the wine selection and the dinner menu. I had the venison wellington, and my friends had the chicken fricasee and the trout. Our dishes were on point, as was the service, and of course, the mountain views. This is a must-experience if you visit Highlands, North Carolina.

We had a great experience last night and will definitely be back! The atmosphere was very elegant, yet relaxing. A big part in that was our great waiter, Rob. It was my girlfriends birthday and Rob took special care of her suggesting a wine she might prefer and explaining the menu in detail to ensure we order exactly what we expect. One of the best servers I’ve had at any restaurant! Then came the food with healthy portions of fresh ingredients you can really taste the difference. I had the 12oz filet and she had the venison. Both meals were some of the best either have had in our life. The filet was loaded with flavor and cooked to perfection. I also highly suggest the brussels for the table. Oak is the perfect place to take a special someone for a special night.

My wife and I spent one night of our honeymoon enjoying the superb food, service, and ambiance of this gem in the mountains. The views (even on a slightly overcast day) were stunning and we watched the clouds float through the valley as we sipped our bubbly. The bar and bar staff create beautiful classic cocktails. I truly appreciated being asked if I wanted vermouth in my martini (always yes). The attention to detail was refreshing. The accommodations were extremely comfortable and we waited on sofas as our table was being prepared. Our server was attentive and kind, ensuring we had everything we needed and made stellar recommendations on both the food menu and surprisingly robust sides menu. Tip: Do not skimp on the sides, they are legendary. The wine list has a great selection of offerings from different regions that pair very well with the food. You’ll find a nice selection of California reds but don’t overlook the French selections. They’re very well priced and delicious. We enjoyed the Cru Beaujolais with our dinner.

Had dinner here on Sunday. Perhaps we’re tainted from our exceptional experience at the Oak Steakhouse at Avalon, but this experience was subpar. Our only saving grace was Josh, our server! I have dietary restrictions and my appetizer (asparagus) was prepared incorrectly (as in heavily salted). I know it seems minor, but it could land me in the hospital, so it’s serious. They did correct the issue. My husband’s steak was overcooked and very thin for a ribeye. Disappointing. My filet (ordered medium well) was heavily charred (read burnt; it was not ordered Pittsburgh style) and undercooked in the center (read rare). We ordered fries that never appeared, except on our bill. We then got sorbet which was ridiculously frozen hard, a spoon could not cut through it. Did I mention that the martini glasses are oddly small? To top it off, this meal was very expensive. We dine out often and this left a lot to be desired.

Had a large party celebrating my mothers 94th birthday. We were stuck downstairs and split into two tables. Unfortunately at 94 you don’t last as long and we asked to go ahead and put in our order because of that. The order was given twenty minutes before our second table. Finally an hour later the later ordering tables food comes out, but the 29 minute delayed order comes first. WTH! I asked for the manager and told what was going on. The server admitted to holding our order and firing both tables at same time. That’s what you get for a thousand plus dollars. We did get a few desserts. Manager never apologized, nor the server. Good restaurant in Charlotte, avoid this one! What a joke!

We enjoyed Oak Steakhouae as part of a girls’ trip. The filet was delicious! The restaurant was impeccably clean, the staff was welcoming and helpful. Michael was a delight, and don’t get me started on the amazing drinks he served us! We had such a great time, our only complaint is that we hadn’t discovered this gem earlier in our trip.
