Oak park restaurant review in Des Moines, IA – Facebook
Reviews
Overall, many dishes were excellent. The Caviar Cone is still our favorite and just as memorable as we remembered. The Potato Gnocchi was surprisingly good, and the oysters with garlic butter were delicious. The lobster ravioli had great flavor, although it was slightly on the salty side. The Oak Park Caesar salad looked different from our previous visit but was very refreshing. My wife also enjoyed the Chilean sea bass, which was fresh and cooked beautifully.
Unfortunately, the lamb pie that I ordered was quite disappointing. The sauce was extremely salty and overwhelmed the entire dish. I mentioned this to the waitress when she cleared the plates, but there was no follow-up or acknowledgment afterward.
Given the restaurant’s reputation and price point, I expected a little more attention to customer feedback, especially when something goes wrong with a main course.
That said, we still appreciate many aspects of the meal and the memories we’ve had here. We hope the kitchen and service team will take feedback like this seriously so the experience can continue to match the high standards Oak Park is known for.
I’m mad at myself that I forgot my servers name, but he was amazing!! Every single dish was incredible, the wine selections were perfect, and I couldn’t pass on the banana split!
Money was spent, but it was worth every dime!
1st of all let me say this:
COLE- awesome and personable waiter! Great customer service!
If you plan on a great service for your wedding anniversary, this is the place to go
-the atmosphere was amazing, the ambiance and the subtle music was great!
-the food. period.
There is no word beyond my own vocabulary to describe how delicious this was. I would start off with a drink (of course ) and for the appetizer, the gnocchi. Thank me later. Then, my wife and I shared the Cesar salad.
My wife got the pappardelle. I got the filet Mignon. The pappardelle is a pasta that had this savory flavor with a hint of lime and rosemary and the filet mignon by it self was so delicious!
And lastly the dessert.
If you want a nice pyrotechnic show, order the Sunday. You get a scoop of banana saffron ice cream, then pistachio, I can’t remember the last one I think it was vanilla (forgive me if I’m wrong). It also came with and alcoholic boba, and fruit, gold leaf, and freeze dried angel cake, and 3 honey sugar leaves (obviously not real leaves).
Some of the best starters were: the Brioche bread and the potato gnocchi. The gnocchi was truly the hit of the evening with everyone. My Filet Mignon was wonderful (and I am picky about steak having grown up on an Iowa farm where Dad raised Black Angus). My wife and SIL both had the Chilean Sea Bass which was also wonderful. I tasted some of it and it was better than any other I have had at high end restaurants anywhere.
We brought our own Magnum sized bottle of wine to share for which we paid one corkage fee. The desserts we ordered included Crème Brûlée and scoop of sherbet and some fresh-brewed French Press coffee. Overall we all agreed that dining at Oak Park tonight was a better experience than any other fine restaurant in the Des Moines area.
The service from everyone was truly fantastic.
For starters, we enjoyed the octopus (my husbands favorite), the Brioche (some of the best bread I’ve had), gnocchi (probably my fav all night) & the beet salad which was very unique and had tiny crunches of slightly bitter chocolate. I love chocolate and don’t realize what it was, so it’s not what you’d expect.
For mains, my husband had the Chop, which was literally incredible and huge. It had so much flavor, some smokiness but not too much, smelled like bacon, & topped with cherries. It was also HUGE!
I enjoyed the snapper, which was light, buttery, and perfect with the potatoes.
Dessert was my favorite, the chocolate soufflé. Oh. My. Gawd. Yes.
If you haven’t been, make a reservation and GO! They also have a cool chefs table experience I’d like to try at some point.
All in all, a very pricey, but fantastic dinner. We will certainly plan to return and try additional items!
