OAK OVEN is, first and foremost, a casual neighborhood restaurant dedicated to providing reasonably priced, high-end quality food, healthy meal options and impeccable service. The menu is heavily influenced by the Sicilian heritage of the restaurant’s founders. Their ancestors began arriving in New Orleans in the 1870’s and quickly melded into the fabric of the Crescent City. OAK OVEN’s award-winning fare celebrates this fusion of Sicilian, Italian and New Orleans culture.
Popular, contemporary Italian restaurant serving rustic pastas, seafood, wood-fired pizzas & wine.

I went to Oak Oven today with a group of 5. We had visitors in from North Carolina and thought this would be a nice place to take them. Instead, the hostess basically sent us straight to the dog house.
We were told we had to eat outside because we didn’t have a reservation — even though there was clearly room inside. The attitude was hostile from the start. I wasn’t happy about it, but whatever, we went along.
The outside area is honestly awful: dingy, old ugly chairs, a meh table, pieces of construction lying around, part of the roof looked broken, and it even seemed like there was termites on it. Not a great look.
Then the radio started screeching like torture. I waited with my hand raised for about 30 minutes and nobody noticed, so I finally got up to get someone. Lucky me — the hostess shows up again. I ask if she can turn the radio off and she replies, sarcastically, that “if you had made a reservation, you’d be inside.”
At that point I was done.
So here’s my message:
If you offer walk-ins, have actual walk-in tables.
Don’t punish your patrons.
And maybe have your hostess attend a customer service meeting with Jesus because… wow.
Food was ok — 7/10.
Pizza was soggy.
Waiter was fine.
But that hostess? Absolutely killed the experience.
Left a picture of her for your information!
We were seated and then completely ignored for over 30 minutes. No water, no bread, no greeting, no acknowledgement that we were even sitting there. We watched staff move around the restaurant and serve other tables while we sat there wondering if anyone was going to come help us.
After half an hour, someone finally approached the table. Instead of apologizing for the extremely long wait, they laughed and said “I don’t think this is my section” in the middle of taking our order. After being ignored for that long, the reaction felt dismissive and disrespectful.
At that point it was hard not to question why we were the only table being overlooked for so long. When you’re sitting there watching other guests receive normal service while you’re completely ignored, it leaves a very bad impression and raises serious concerns about how guests are being treated.
Restaurants get busy — that’s understandable. Ignoring a table for over 30 minutes and then laughing it off is not.
The New Orleans area has too many amazing restaurants with great hospitality to spend time somewhere that makes guests feel invisible and unwelcome.
We will absolutely not be returning.
