I had the eggplant pasta. I prefer eggplant on the crisp side and less smothered in cheese. The crème brûlée was delicious. Our server did his best. He’d get confused and forget requests but we were a big party so understood. I think the restaurant may need a very deep cleaning to improve the atmosphere. It’s kind of dark and dingy. The extra room or private room with white walls doesn’t have a single inviting photo on the wall. Simple things could improve the diner experience.

2/5 – Sent to the Dog House at Oak Oven

I went to Oak Oven today with a group of 5. We had visitors in from North Carolina and thought this would be a nice place to take them. Instead, the hostess basically sent us straight to the dog house.

We were told we had to eat outside because we didn’t have a reservation — even though there was clearly room inside. The attitude was hostile from the start. I wasn’t happy about it, but whatever, we went along.

The outside area is honestly awful: dingy, old ugly chairs, a meh table, pieces of construction lying around, part of the roof looked broken, and it even seemed like there was termites on it. Not a great look.

Then the radio started screeching like torture. I waited with my hand raised for about 30 minutes and nobody noticed, so I finally got up to get someone. Lucky me — the hostess shows up again. I ask if she can turn the radio off and she replies, sarcastically, that “if you had made a reservation, you’d be inside.”

At that point I was done.

So here’s my message:
If you offer walk-ins, have actual walk-in tables.
Don’t punish your patrons.
And maybe have your hostess attend a customer service meeting with Jesus because… wow.

Food was ok — 7/10.
Pizza was soggy.
Waiter was fine.

But that hostess? Absolutely killed the experience.

Left a picture of her for your information!

This is some of the best food I have ever had. We always do takeout and get pizza which is always incredible. Tonight we chose to dine in. Reservation is HIGHLY recommended but we didn’t have one. They were so accommodating and even checking on us while we waited for a table. It was only a 15 min wait. The food…the atmosphere…the staff. Everything is top notch and I can’t believe this is right here in Harahan. Caneloni with soft shell crab (special) and veal parmigiana pictured.

My experience at Oak Oven was honestly one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I’ve had in the River Ridge area.
We were seated and then completely ignored for over 30 minutes. No water, no bread, no greeting, no acknowledgement that we were even sitting there. We watched staff move around the restaurant and serve other tables while we sat there wondering if anyone was going to come help us.
After half an hour, someone finally approached the table. Instead of apologizing for the extremely long wait, they laughed and said “I don’t think this is my section” in the middle of taking our order. After being ignored for that long, the reaction felt dismissive and disrespectful.
At that point it was hard not to question why we were the only table being overlooked for so long. When you’re sitting there watching other guests receive normal service while you’re completely ignored, it leaves a very bad impression and raises serious concerns about how guests are being treated.
Restaurants get busy — that’s understandable. Ignoring a table for over 30 minutes and then laughing it off is not.
The New Orleans area has too many amazing restaurants with great hospitality to spend time somewhere that makes guests feel invisible and unwelcome.
We will absolutely not be returning.

Overall, I highly recommend this place. The parking was almost full, and they needed better signage as to which door to enter. Not to mention, their main sign is hard to see from jefferson so you might miss it and have to do a u-turn. But let me tell you that the wait wasn’t too long and the service was great and the food was even better! The table bread was warm and delicious. I had a small Parmigiano salad, which I enjoyed. I tried a small lasagna and was well pleased. I rate it up there with the best. My wife and a friend both had the Penne Diavola and at first I thought, is that it? But after I had a taste I was blown away! It was very good! Our other friend had the Beccafico, and she wasn’t too impressed by the taste. It looked amazing but lacked flavor and a little fishy, she said. But we all enjoyed our desserts. Their Gelati was very good. The Crema Bruciata was awesome. And my Budino di Pane a la mode was incredible!!

Homemade pasta was light and fabulous. The sauce wasn’t too heavy and the shrimp were fresh and cooked to perfection. Unique take on pumpkin soup that was very very good. Lots of parking and easy to get to. Love that you can get large or small portions of the pasta and soups.

Absolutely loved this place! Very chic inside but it also has a warm atmosphere. The food was INCREDIBLE. I think my waitress’s name was Dakota. Either way, she was amazing.

This place is such a gem! Tastefully decorated, and wonderful ambiance. The food was spectacular also! We ordered a Verdure Pizza for an appetizer, and pastas for our meal. Everything tasted great! I would definitely eat here again.

The menu looks the same but none of the food is the same. The new person in charge of the menu doesn’t understand food beyond canned crushed tomatoes. Everything is loaded with it, including recipes that never had tomatoes before. Everything I tried was ruined with tomatoes and grease. All the other ingredients have been substituted with this person’s limited knowledge of food based on his or her mama’s old grocery list — none of the cheeses, vegetables, or herbs are fresh anymore. Such a tragic loss of a great restaurant.
