With tip, it was $25 for 3 people.
– Roti canai: 11/10, the roti was SO crispy (ASMR level). The curry dipping sauce was so flavorful. MUST GET
– Beef rendang: 11/10, fav dish. So flavorful, and the beef was so tender. MUST GET
– Pineapple fried rice: 8/10, I’m not usually a fan of getting fried rice, esp at restaurants, but this was surprisingly so good!! There could be more pineapple tho. Would get it again!
– Hainanese chicken (1/2): 7/10, not sure I’m the biggest fan, but my friends really liked it. I didn’t expect there to be cartilage but there was some. The 1/2 portion was very large for 3 people, could’ve gotten 1/4. The sauce it came with was okay
*Note: They’re cash only
For entree we ordered a lot such as Penang Asam Laksa was yummy. This on was recommended. Steamed fish has a slightly fishy smell but sauce was good.
And my favorite was Hainanese Chicken with Rice Chicken rice subtly flavored with steamed chicken with bone come with delicious sauce, We all love this menu so much.
Fried Bun with condensed milk, were so good ! Love it.
This restaurant so wide , staff friendly and helpful. Specifically, my friend have shrimp allergy , He try to explain and ask for awareness the dish that contains with shrimp in ingredients. Nice!!
We ordered the roti canai to start. (Listen to everyone; you have to get it!) Despite the seemingly deceptive plating, the roti portion is way above average, curry sauce is great, and overall great cost value.
The Penang Assam Laksa was also phenomenal. The broth is balanced and light; tart and fishy (we were warned it would be “very fishy,” we personally have no issue with fishiness) and extremely umami. The rice noodles are super bouncy, wish we ordered extra.
We ended off with the Nasi Lemak; hard recommend. Each dish was cooked to perfection, the coconut rice wasn’t overwhelming, and the portion size was great. It’s hard to describe how good it was and why it was so good; you just have to try it.
10/10
My family and friends raved about Nyonya. Compared to other Malaysian restaurants I’ve been to in NYC, the dishes here felt lighter and less oily. The menu is huge, and there’s so much I still want to try.
*Roti Canai 印度麵包 $6.5 *
Their signature appetizer: the flakiest flatbread I’ve ever had, plus they even put a piece of chicken in the curry sauce on the side!
*Beef Satay 沙爹牛串 $15.95 **
I often find beef skewers overcooked and tough, but here they got it perfect. Tender, charred, and with plenty of satay peanut sauce.
*Sarang Burong 佛砵飄香 $21.95 **
Possibly the most underrated Malaysian dish and my personal favorite. The fried lace mashed taro is shaped like a bird’s nest and topped with shrimp, chicken, mushrooms, and veggies. Similar to a taro puff pastry dim sum, and I swear any taro lover would love this.
*Nasi Lemak 椰漿飯 $15.95 *
I couldn’t leave a drop because the curry was that good. Coconut milk rice made every bite even better.
*Hainanese Chicken 海南雞 $13.95 (¼), $17.95 (½)
Super silky, tender chicken, and the portion made the price totally worth it.
*Coconut Pudding 椰子凍
They treated us to this coconut pudding on the house, which normally comes in a coconut shell. I was stuffed, but it was so light that I still finished every bite.
*Malaysian Iced Coffee 馬來咖啡冰 $5.5
As always, malaysian coffee was way too sweet for me since it’s mixed with condensed milk…
We started with the roti canai, and it was outstanding. Perfectly crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside, and paired with a curry dip that had just the right amount of heat while still being rich and flavorful. It’s one of those dishes you can’t help but finish entirely.
For our mains, we ordered the mee goreng and the Hainanese chicken, and both were excellent. The mee goreng was packed with flavor and had that comforting, slightly sweet-savory balance that Malaysian noodles do so well. The Hainanese chicken was tender, silky, and very filling, a simple dish done really well.
To drink, we had the sooi pooi (salted plum drink) and lemon iced tea, both refreshing and a great complement to the meal.
Service was quick, portions were generous, and the food was genuinely delicious. If you love Malaysian cuisine or want a flavorful, hearty meal in Chinatown without breaking the bank, Nyonya is absolutely worth a visit.
Come hungry because the humongous roti canai is a must-order — crispy, fluffy, and perfect for soaking up every drop of sauce. Their famous Hainanese Chicken and Beef Rendang (voted best in NYC) both live up to the hype — rich, comforting, and full of depth.
You also can’t miss the Curry Yong Tau Fu and Chow Fun, definite highlights on the menu. If you can’t decide on appetizers, go for the Lobak — a little bit of everything and perfect for sharing.
And don’t skip dessert — the Bubur Cha Cha is the perfect sweet finish. This is one of those menus where everything delivers.

prices are great for the quantity and quality of food you get. they are cash only and they make it *known* – but they have an atm at the front of the store just in case.
