Byway Burger delivered exactly what we were craving—a no-frills, roadside-style burger joint with character and flavor. The food was genuinely good, with that satisfying, old-school burger taste that’s hard to find these days. It wasn’t just another chain burger—it had a unique touch that made it stand out, from the perfectly cooked patties to the crispy, golden fries.
The atmosphere inside definitely leans vintage—some might even call it a little run-down—but honestly, that’s part of the charm. It felt like stepping into a piece of local history, and it matched the Route 66 road trip vibe we were going for perfectly. We didn’t want anything polished or fancy—just solid food in a place with personality—and that’s exactly what we got.
What really made our visit memorable, though, was the service. Elle, the hostess, was hands-down one of the best we’ve encountered anywhere. She was warm, attentive, and truly cared about our experience. It’s rare to find someone so naturally welcoming, and her energy elevated the entire meal. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back next time we pass through.

Been coming here since I was a kid, it’s a tradition to come when visiting our grandma but this time we were very disappointed. The food and service were terrible. We came around 3pm on a Sunday and the staff were complaining about being overwhelmed when there were 2 other people besides us. Our waitress could not get our order down and we had to repeat ourselves at least 4 times.
I ordered the number 1 meal, no cheese with a root beer float. She first had a hard time with making the root beer a float but thankfully it came out right. Our food took well over 50mins to come out and my burger had cheese on it when I was the only one who asked for no cheese. I didn’t send it back because I didn’t want to wait any longer to eat. Our fries and my aunts onions rings came out cold. Also for curly fries we got only ends, the fries were so disappointing. They did remake the onion rings and gave us fresh fries but they made us feel guilty for even asking. By the time we left the place was empty.
Our family loves this place, I hope next time it will be a better experience.

I grew up eating hamburgers but this was my first time to eat a “crumbly” burger. Loved it The 2 waitresses were so very friendly and attentive Do yourself a favor and have the #1 with the frosted mug of root beer!

A Wichita only fast food joint that serves loose meat burgers. Not many places serve loose meat sandwiches anymore. Old school feel with diner, barstool seats and booths. Onion rings were good but the root beer was great. Affordable, fast and friendly kids waiting on you. Something different if you’re passing through.

Food was great, service was great but I had to screw my waitress out of a tip because I didn’t have any cash and they don’t allow you to put the tip on the card. All you’re doing is hurting your employee who gave great service and deserved it.

NuWay is a classic. We stop every time we go back home to Kansas City. I’ve never had a bad meal here. People are always nice too. We are a family of 5 and never spend more then $50

Tried NuWay for the first time. Although the Bacon Cheddar NuWay was good, the burger meat could use a little bit more salt. The onion rings could be less greasy, but was still good. The root beer was also pretty good and worth coming back for more.

The food wasn’t as good as it usually is. The restaurant was filthy and for me that ruins everything. All I can think is if it is this dirty in the dining area what must the kitchen be like?
Our server was excellent! She made sure our food tasted good and checked on us several times.

Food was sub par, but my real concern is with how the employees treated one of there servers while i was there. I didnt get her name but she was shorter with long curly hair, and I am not sure what the big ordeal was but the way staff spoke to that woman and treated her with customers there was absolutely disgusting and I am appalled. Dont eat here unless you support employers who belittle and insult there employees publicly.

This was a different kind of burger, a crumbly burger, and it was pretty good. I had the bacon cheese crumbly burger. The fries weren’t bad, they were crisped well, just needed salt (which I added). But the number one reason I will come back was the Root Beer, they make it there and it was delicious. The staff was also very friendly and welcoming.
Bottom line: It’s worth trying, especially the Root Beer.
