Nunzi’s By the Water is a destination restaurant in a little marina. This family restaurant is beautiful, good for solo diners, romantic couples, families, and small groups. The restaurant is full of regulars who could choose to go anywhere, and they choose to come here.
I had a tender and succulent pork cutlet that was perfectly crispy and not at all greasy. It came with delicious sauteed fresh vegetables – broccoli, crimini mushrooms, asparagus, cauliflour and carrots, each cooked perfectly al dente and full of flavor. The fettucini with a tangy short ribs sauce was also delicious, and the pasta was al dente. Our party had all kinds of delicious appetizers including the best bruschetta I ever had and savory chewy delicious garlic knots and a nice margarita pizza. We all agreed that the chopped salad was fantastic, with a light dressing and dainty firm garbanzo beans, meat, tomatoes and cheese. Our party of 5 enjoyed everything we had as we lingered over our multicourse meal and conversations for hours. I also saw people in a rush be served quickly, eat then zip back out.
There is a bar area where one can sit at the bar and have very good drinks. The bartenders really know what they’re doing and my espresso martini was excellent. The wine list is good as well and we had a very good New Zealand sauvignon blanc and some reds.
One can be in and out as quickly or stay as long as one likes. Everyone from the waiters to the chefs to the bartenders to the busboys, and of course the owners are caring, conscientious, hard-working people who make everything look effortless. The people at Nunzi’s want every customer to enjoy the full experience, especially the food. The desserts have to be mentioned – we tried a lot of them, all very good. The real standouts were the cannoli, chocolate fudge brownie, and an absolutely rich, creamy, delectable panna cotta, not at all gelatinous and rubbery as it is in so many other places outside of Italy.
I would definitely come from anywhere to Freeport, Long Island to this little Marina restaurant, Nunzi’s By the Water, for a wonderful time, tasty drinks and a delicious, beautiful meal.

If you’re thinking about making that reservation, do it! I went to Nunzi’s for a friend’s birthday dinner, and it was amazing. Our waiter was really friendly and knowledgable. The atmosphere felt like a big family gathering, it was lively and all around good vibes. The food was also delicious, from the appetizers to the entrees. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned. The calamari was crunchy with no hint of sogginess that some restaurants have. The entrees were filling and tasty. I had the Alley Boy, which I cannot recommend enough if you want a handheld. My only regret was not trying their desserts!

The hostess told us the food would be delayed due to the pastry chef being absent. We expected it to take one hour to an hour and 20 minutes, but we waited nearly two hours for everything to arrive. The last dish came out two and a half hours after we were seated. A table that arrived an hour after us received their food before we did.
We were supposed to get six clams but only received five. Both the waitress and food runner confirmed it should have been 6.
The Mezcaliza drink was unpleasant, made with cheap mezcal and poor flavor. The shrimp and lobster pasta wasn’t creamy and lacked lobster, using only butter. Utensils arrived after the food was already served.I would sadly not bother with this establishment.
The spicy rigatoni was good.

Can’t say enough great things about Nunzi’s On the Water! We had an anniversary party for my parent’s 50th anniversary. Even though a small restaurant, they were able to accommodate a table for 25. The food and service were great. The staff is very friendly. Food wise we tried a few different things, everyone really liked the Italian nachos and sausage and broccoli rabe egg rolls. The fried calamari was light and crispy. We opted for rigatoni ala vodka. The sauce is a little spicy and so good even people who don’t like spice couldn’t stop eating it. We really enjoyed ourselves. Definitely check it out.

A nice place not in the miracle mile. They were very receptive to a last minute lunch. Very welcoming atmosphere by the staff. We went in December which is off season for the area. The food was okay and presented well and freshly cooked. Had a nice menu with plenty of of options. I would really like.to try it when it’s busier.

I love this place. The atmosphere is great. The food is great. The management is great. We dine here at least 2 or 3 times a month and have never had a bad meal. It’s a quaint, intimate little jewel in the heart of Freeport.

The food was delicious, but the staff made the night, they were extremely friendly, funny, attentive and really went above and beyond to make the experience worth wild. Highly recommend, beautiful ambiance.

Not only does this restaurant not have a view of the water, But its interior feels cheap and overly dark. I ordered a pizza for my son, And it came out so watery that he only ate one slice – and then spit it out. Whilst attempting to cut the cheese on the pizza, a substantial amount of water spilled out of it. In the end the cheese did not cut. My “Picasso” Eggplant sandwich was sweet and arguably disgusting. I don’t recommend this place.
