I ordered here many years ago and it wasn’t great, but I thought I would try it again, for something different. I ordered the Szechuan Chicken with fried rice. Pretty basic. It just wasn’t good at all. Probably the first time I’ve ordered Chinese food and been disappointed that the portion size was big.
Many pieces of chicken barely had any sauce on them. It wasn’t well-done or even approaching crispy, but to be fair, it wasn’t approaching anything but dry. I took a photo and included it here – the fried rice had big pieces of onion it it, and the Szechuan Chicken had onions and I believe shallots or red onions. I’m betting on shallots. You can see A LOT of them, and that’s just the ones I decided to pull out. Far too many and what I strong and off-putting taste. The zucchini was nicely done, it had thinly sliced carrots and some celery, with a few mushrooms. It was unremarkable in any way, other than onions/shallots and a dirty oil taste.
Just sitting at the table waiting for the order was unpleasant. Disorganized tables and chairs, dirty tables, and food on the floor. The young man who took my order was very nice, but he was at a table on his phone when I walked in at lunch time. Pick up a cloth and wipe tables and sweep the floor, then perhaps have some phone time.
It wasn’t a pleasant experience. The people were nice, the food and atmosphere was entirely unsatisfactory.
We called in our order and went to pick it up and it was ready right on time. They were very nice. I have an allergy and they asked me ahead of time if I had any allergies and I told him I was allergic to shrimp so they made sure there was no shrimp in or near any of my food.
When we got home, we opened the bag and couldn’t believe the size of the portions that they gave us and the food was absolutely delicious!
I’m from Boston originally and we have a lot of Chinese food restaurants up there and I would put this up against any one of them. I love chicken fingers, the ones with the batter on them, and this was the only place I have found that had them made that way.
We had egg foo yong, Hunan beef that was loaded with beef and delicious vegetables. We will always go to #1Wok from now on
