Social Profile:

Nostrana — literally ‘ours’ — invokes local. Simple food from honest ingredients. Pure. Regional. Italian. Opened in 2005, Nostrana is Chef/Owner Cathy Whims’ love letter to Italy. This is a restaurant built on relationships: with our amazing farmers and purveyors, our dedicated staff, and of course with you, our guest. We hope to offer something timeless and authentic in a beautiful space, the regional specialties of Italy deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest. We strive to be better every day.

Seasonally influenced Italian dishes, including popular thin-crust pizzas, in lodgelike digs.

It’s really delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed everything, but we’d probably not go back. Loved the Biatecca and the Chocolate business di nocino. The nocino was the best dessert I’ve had in a long while. The Tiramisu was great, but the nocino was just perfect.
Their pizza was good, but we have good pizza every where.
Definitely a great date night spot.

Nostrana has been on my list for a while. What a lovely experience. It’s that elegant, thoughtful neighborhood place—a quiet achiever with plenty of awards.

From the bread and olive oil to the wine pairings and pasta, everything was delightful.

The Strozzapreti beef and pork ragù was a perfect balance of meat, sauce, and pasta—all coming together with beautiful texture and flavor. Great pairing with the Chianti Classico Castell’In Villa, 2019.

Dessert (often something we skip) was a treat: My husband went with the Riesling ‘Noble Rot,’ Martin Woods, 2021—amazing.

Service was welcoming and friendly. Thank you, Jesse, for taking care of us.

Great atmosphere with elevated interior design. Warm wood tones. Sculptural overhead lighting. Special attention to detail creates a warm and inviting dining experience.

Can’t wait to visit Nostrana again.

This was our first time visiting and we were pleasantly surprised with how much we loved it. Our food was delicious, and they were going gnocchi thursday so we tried a gnocchi dish. They were little bites a pillowy soft goodness. Highly recommend.
The wine list was very extensive, both by the bottle and by the glass. The atmosphere and the decor in the restaurant was beautiful, festive for the holidays, but also felt very intimate. We loved it and will be telling our friends and definitely returning.

This is one of my 5-5-5 restaurants for food, service, and atmosphere. Pasta dishes are very good. They have pizza baked in wood fire oven. Full bar. I really enjoy each time I visit. It is on the pricier side but they deliver a great dining experience in return. Reservations needed for popular times. They have a parking lot which is nice but it can be full, plan for a little extra time based on when you’re going.

Great place, comfort food freshly made with top ingredients and a good assortment of dishes to choose from with an Italien inspiration. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere is great, with an open Kitchen, plenty of seating and the decor gives of a warm, comfortable vibe.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a good friend, so I made reservations in the bar, thinking there would be high-top tables in addition to the bar seating. The drive was quite a trek, about 40 minutes from our home, across the river.
We were seated right away upon arrival, but unfortunately, the host placed us at a corner spot at the bar, where I had a view of the bar’s side. It felt a bit cramped and honestly gave off a “timeout corner” vibe. It was disappointing to be tucked away like that for a first visit, especially with other open seats available. Thankfully, my husband was kind enough to switch spots with me.
On a positive note, the bartender was attentive and friendly. The food was truly fantastic. My Negroni was spot-on, and the clams were hands down the best I’ve had at a restaurant.
One thing that caught me off guard was the 22% automatic gratuity, especially with an additional tip line still presented. Also, while my seating experience wasn’t ideal, the overall ambiance on the bar side was aesthetically pleasing. I appreciated learning that they source produce from their own farm and that employees have the option to help tend it such a great concept.
Overall, I would definitely go back, but next time I’ll opt for a table in the dining room for a more comfortable experience.

If it wasn’t for the prices I would give it five stars. I got a pizza which with just cheese and sauce. I think it was $22. It was good but more than I like to spend. I also got a drink which was good but was about $18 if I remember correctly. Not somewhere I would usually go. But fancy and fun and really the service was amazing!

My partner and I went here last week for our 7 year anniversary and it was perfect. Reservations were easy and simple to make. I was able to leave a note asking for a table off to the side which we got. The server was perfect in their presence, they weren’t too overbearing or too absent. We didn’t get dessert because we were going elsewhere, but they brought us some complimentary shortbread cookies and a celebratory chicken candle

Overall it was the perfect experience and we will definitely be back!!!

The best Italian experience I have had in Portland by far. Wine selection, excellent. Food, absolutely amazing. Service was wonderful, didn’t rush us, and had great suggestions.

Service was unfortunately very poor. Our server seemed disengaged and inattentive to our table the entire night. The pasta came oddly hard and cold, and the bread was stale and cold as well.

We were also celebrating my friend’s birthday, and it was not acknowledged at all. Even more disappointing, the dessert we purchased for her was mistakenly given to someone else at our table. For a special occasion, that was really upsetting.

To top it off, a 22% service charge was automatically added to the bill despite the lack of service. I understand service charges can be standard, but it felt unjustified given the experience we had. We were also a table of 3????

As someone who works in healthcare and values professionalism and attentiveness, this experience was very disappointing.
