Not impressed due to inconsiderate staff. I was trying to take a business meeting in the vestibule as I could not find a quiet corner anywhere along the Main Street. There was no one in the area where I was sitting and no one passed through either. It was an unused little corner perfect to take a couple conference calls while I was traveling. The “owner of the property” told me “the vestibule is private property and is not the place to just hang out in.” WOW. There was no one around that I could have been bothering – I guess except for her. I had plans to finish my call and drop in the lounge afterwards to have a sandwich and cocktail, but no longer. I don’t have time for unfriendly people.

I have been here a few times. I often have their BLT or steak sandwich with fries. I like frosted root beer on tap.
Portions are just right and decent prices. Husband gets the turkey sandwich. There is alot of meat in these sandwiches. They don’t blare the music so loud you can’t have a decent conversation.

The waitress was upset with my friend when the waitress wrote down the wrong sandwich. She put her hands on her hands on her hips and said very loudly..YOU ARE WRONG! She got mad so fast. Then ignored our table after that. She’d ask tables around us if the needed anything, but not us. It made our lunch very uncomfortable.

Used to love ordering the fish sandwich from this place. They definitely have changed them. For the worse. Would NOT recommend. Sandwich came on super thick hamburger bun. So much cheese and lettuce and like the tiniest piece of fish that tasted so spoiled I threw the whole thing away. Super disappointed and disgusted

Enjoyed our first visit to Northwestern Hotel & Lounge – Justin our bartender, a better looking version of Jay Leno was friendly, courteous and patient with us on our first visit. Gladly explaining the menu, etc – he made it a fun visit and the Hemlock sandwiches were delicious. I tried the wild rice soup as well, it was great. This place has some serious history (I’d love to know more) that dates to the early growth of Rhinelander as it is located directly across from the Railroad station (non-operating) as the tracks were removed some 30 years ago. If you’re looking for new and fashionable, this isn’t the place for you – however, if you want to go where the locals go, eat like the locals, and soak up some of the historic ambiance, then the Northwestern if for you. Give it try, I think you’ll enjoy it. Also, if you find out the origin of the name for the Hemlock sandwich – let me know, I’m curious. Enjoy

Neat small bar/grill that serves tasty sandwiches and a small selection of tap beers. Cozy atmosphere makes for a pleasant dining experience.
They also used to have weekly trivia competitions that dummies need not enter, but very fun.

Northwestern is an authentic throwback in time when you walk through the doors. They have the best bloody in town. The French Onion Soup is good, sandwiches are hearty and prepared in front of you. Great little local spot.
