Came here with my husband and 3 kids while visiting Ely for the first time, cute atmosphere with great seating. The service was slowish, but friendly. My kids didn’t care for the hot chocolate at all, but my hot chai tea was pretty good. Maybe a little over priced? Hot chocolate was $4.55. Pistachio muffin was tasty and moist!

This is an Amazing little coffee shop in an unexpected place. A great personal change from the franchises I am used to. Amazing pastries and very good coffee. The service was friendly. If in town or driving through, this should be your coffee stop. And it was such a relief I didn’t have to get gas station coffee for my drive to Minneapolis!

We had breakfast and spent the morning doing computer work at this cafe in Ely, and it was a wonderful experience! The quiche was delicious, as was the fruit and yogurt parfait. We also ordered a cinnamon chip muffin and drinks which were all very tasty. The atmosphere and space and all the details of this cafe were what stood out the most. There is merchandise for sale, thoughtful and lovely local decor, eclectic furniture, and a cozy cafe feel. The upstairs is a large room specifically for those who are getting computer work done and has beautiful windows overlooking the downtown. Overall a very nice visit to Northern Grounds in Ely.

Went for coffee early during the Winterfest. Staff were subpar. The two gals seemed like they wanted to be somewhere else. No greeting. No menu help. Just kinda rude. Cute place with good looking food and treats however.

Coffee and bar. They have pasties and yogurt with fruit and granola. There are other options as well for food. The coffee was good. We got caramel lattes. The staff was friendly. They had good music playing. The tables were inviting and there are booths too. You can go upstairs to work but you have to pay for the day. No hanging out. Great coffee and great atmosphere. Street parking. They have some cheese for sale and some other basics. Also some non-alcoholic spirits

I enjoyed the atmosphere especially for a small town coffee shop. The workers were nice and they had plenty of options but we weren’t impressed by the matcha drinks we got. Looking forward to going back next time we go to Ely and trying something else at Northern Grounds but was really hoping the iced matcha latte and the matcha lemonade were going to hit the spot on the hot day.

I enjoyed a truly delicious Americano and Blueberry, White Chocolate Scone at the Northern Grounds in Ely!! My coffee and scone were also a great value too! Northern Grounds was very busy this Sunday morning but definitely worth the wait! When I’m ever back in Ely, I‘m already planning to stop by again! ❤️

Food is great! Coffee is a bit pricey with better options in the town. What gets me is atmosphere and I had to watch a poor table get harassed by some random man for knocking out a power strip question mark? But the man was just absolutely confused as to where the power strip was. It was crazy to see people get talked to in such a demeaning/disrespectful way by STRANGERS. Makes me not down to hang out or spend any amount of time here. Rude… :/

As a local, I’ve noticed that the prices have gone up significantly in the past 3 years. I understand product costs and staffing might be an issue, but it’s becoming unreasonable.
The prices of a latte are the most expensive I’ve seen in any location (both in Ely and everywhere else)
I’m sad to say after years of being a loyal customer I will have to stop coming here if this doesn’t change.
