deana marie – hello happy vegan
My fiancé and I were visiting San Marcos and stopped by the outlets. We weren’t sure where to go for dinner in that area, so I did a quick search and found North Street Curry Shop, and it ended up being such a great find! We were excited to see that they had a few vegan options, which can be hard to come by sometimes.

The open kitchen was fun to watch, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can really feel the positive energy as soon as you walk in.

I ordered the Chana & Spinach, a traditional chickpea curry served with coconut rice, green chutney, and crispy papadum. It was delicious and definitely had some heat to it, which I enjoyed. My fiancé got the Curry Trio and loved every bite. We also shared the vegetable samosas, which are vegan, and by “shared” I mean I ate 2 1/2 and he had 1/2 😉 plus I ordered a Diet Coke.

There wasn’t a vegan dessert option, but my fiancé ordered the pistachio dairy pop and loved it.

Everything was flavorful and fresh. My only small suggestion would be just a little more rice with the Chana & Spinach dish, but honestly, that’s a minor thing.

They have a nice outdoor seating area, which is perfect if the weather is warm enough. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

In a word, “must-go”. The food was absolutely amazing and Summer who served us (and made all my selections) was superb. She was a dream to work with, been there 3+ years, and you can tell in her confidence and commend of the menu. She was very personable and delightful during our visit. Summer had wonderful recommendations ranging from the vanilla beer to the appetizers to the entrees. Overall, the food was great with every bite revealing a new taste experience.

We also took a to-go bag for dinner which we just ate. It was just as good as the meal we had for lunch.

Follow the menu pics where Summer points out our food selections.

I fell in love with the quaintness of the restaurant, the youthful atmosphere, the sorta eclectic decorations but following a warm and inviting theme.

This restaurant was featured on Good Taste with Tanji which was the sole reason we stopped. She gets an A+++ on this gem of a restuarant!

Stopped by this coffee-and-curry spot and tried the veg samosa and samosa chaat. The samosas were excellent—crisp shell with a flavorful filling. The samosa chaat was just okay. On the drink side we ordered a mocha, americano, espresso, chai latte, and latte, and every coffee was spot-on. Clean space, a bit busy, but the staff were attentive and very friendly. I’m not from the neighborhood, but I’d definitely swing by again when I’m around.

Hello to all my gluten-free and Celiac friends, we visited this restaurant during thanks giving and it was delicious. They had lots of gluten free options and our waitress Amélie was so kind and was so knowledgeable about gluten free and cross contact. The meal comes with papadum but since it’s cross contaminated I didn’t get one . I just wished that I had more rice since papadum wasn’t an option . Other than that totally recommend

Super delicious food, great variety on the menu and everything we tried was scrumptious! Great beer on tap plus they have their own in house brew! Atmosphere was cozy and cute. Wonderful service.

My only complaint was the high prices but I realize the cost of ingredients might play a factor.

Overall great experience here—I’d definitely recommend this place!

Went there for dinner yesterday as Google map showed it under Indian cuisine. Never even close to Indian cuisine and its a bar cum restaurant. The food was pathetic, as we got some frozen parathas which not prepared by the restaurant. The Paneer curry which we ordered was another disaster. To fuel them up, the attenders showed their attitude,as if they serve food for free. In short I strongly will not recommend if you are looking for Indian cuisine.

North Street is a cozy, inviting spot in San Marcos that puts a fun Tex-Mex twist on classic Indian flavors. The menu is creative and approachable, with options like curry tacos, loaded samosas, and even curry queso alongside staples such as butter chicken, tikka masala, and paneer dishes. The Curry Trio is especially worth trying if you want to sample different flavors. But the best was Peri Peri plate, it had very flavorful chicken grilled with rice and grilled veg.

The staff here are warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is relaxed—perfect for a casual meal or hanging out on the patio when the weather’s nice. Portions are generous, and the menu does a great job explaining dishes for anyone less familiar with Indian food.
They have very nicely decorated clean restrooms with small details like hair scrunchy and tampons. For that I have given them an extra star.

Very tasty and reasonably priced. I always go for the curry queso but tried their traditional indian dishes today and they were delicious!
The forbidden taco was SO good, and their saag paneer was really tasty. The butter chicken and tikka masala were good, but I have had better elsewhere. That being said, I am looking forward to going back!

Five well deserved stars for outstanding food, superb friendly service and cool atmosphere. I would give it an extra star for super clean well stocked restrooms that include tampax, hair ties and breath mints! We were greeted promptly and cheerfully when we arrived and given recommendations on request. The recommendations were spot on, the butter chicken and chicken tikka masala were both superb. The chicken was moist and not overcooked, the sauce was subtly spicy but not overpowering. The portion sizes were satisfying and served with a papaad. Our server Troy was cheerful and pleasant and the perfect level of attentiveness.

Don’t be misled—this is not a traditional Indian restaurant. They offer a few Indian fusion dishes, but none of them taste authentic or satisfying. The paratha was clearly frozen, the sauce in the paneer tikka lacked flavor, and the paneer tikka wrap was completely bland.

If you’re looking for a real Indian food, this isn’t the place. It feels more like a coffee shop that reheats frozen or pre-packaged Indian meals and charges a premium. Definitely overpriced and not worth it.

The only positives are the location and the cozy atmosphere—but the food doesn’t live up to either.
