The first meal I ever had here was 9 years ago with my now-husband. We were celebrating our one-year anniversary. Another couple was celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary – turns out she was a Michelin reviewer on her day off because she loves the food so much! They paid for our meal without telling us – I wish we had gotten their number! Since then have had flawless meal after meal here.
As a note, they only have about 7 tables so it might be worth a call before going (they were only half full on a Saturday). Can be difficult to find the actual store front, once in the plaza. Look for a little brown sign w/ Japanese writing.
Edit for Owner response:
Let’s get the fact it took you 3yrs to respond out of the way.
To say there are no traditional Udon recipes, which include sesame, is completely false. Not every Udon recipe is just Dashi. I’ve traveled East, more than once, and have experienced authentic food many times.
I did complement the freshness of the fish. However, the price was the issue. I very much doubt they were 1oz pieces, for $7/ea.
We used Google to find your restaurant, as we live only 5 miles away. We much prefer Yokohama. It’s has a much livelier atmosphere and prices are much closer to realistic expectations. Their level of quality is absolutely on par (if not slightly higher) than yours.
I received two plastic containers of sushi that looked like stuff that costs $20 in the city. One of the rolls had imitation crab meat and was doused in soy sauce. absolutely criminal.
Added on 8/2022: I don’t know how you can trace the bill dating back more than 2 years ago, and I don’t know how you can simply assume I paid by my credit card or someone else didn’t pay for the dinner. However, if you want to know who the server was for the training purpose, it was this Asian lady in her between 40s and 50s. I think she is highly likely the owner of the restaurant, but I may be wrong on that one. It would be better off if she doesn’t show up at the restaurant.
The food was fresh, sophisticated and several items were flown in from Japan!
The organic tofu starter, was creamy and had a delicious hint of smokiness to it. The bluefin tuna was a rare treat and with the hotate (scallop) was great to get a sense of the nigiri menu. We also had black cod, grilled to a perfect moist, flaky texture and the kake udon soup, perfect for a winter’s night. The finale of green tea ice cream with a plum wine reduction sauce was a perfect ending!
If you want sophisticated, well executed Japanese food in Washington, CT. you will enjoy it in a quiet serene setting at Norimaki!
