The place is quaint and right downtown in Lillington. I did not have a wait and they had high chairs for my twins.
The server was very friendly and did her best to keep up with the volume of people but it felt short staffed for lunch time. At the end, we waited 15 minutes for to-go boxes because the poor server was running around trying to get to-go orders out the door, food on people’s tables, and drinks refilled.
We ordered quickly but it took FOREVER to get our food, even when I ordered my toddler’s meals first so they would not have to wait. I ordered the Veal Frances, my teen son ordered the Gyro Sandwich and we ordered butter noodles and meatballs for one kids meal and chicken tenders with fries for the other.
It turns out that the excessive wait was because they did not have any veal so they went to go get some. I wish they’d let me know that they didn’t have any and at least giving me the option to either wait longer or pick something different from the menu. Instead I was left in the dark not knowing exactly what had happened until it was far too late to do anything about it. My kids meals also came out after about 40 minutes when they really should have been out before then.
The good:
– the breading on the chicken tenders was phenomenal, that entire kids meal was great. It was a very generous portion and tasted really good, you could tell they breaded their own tenders.
– my son’s gyro sandwich was really good he said and another good generous portion.
– the garlic bread that they gave me… that was fantastic.
The bad:
– The kids noodles with meatballs had what looked like cold butter still covering the noodles and meatballs, like, with the 40 minute wait, they still couldn’t properly incorporate butter into the noodles and meatballs.
– The veal was not good. It was plain undersalted pasta bathed in a soupy mixture of just lemon and butter, zero seasoning and the actual veal had twice as much breading as there was meat and the breading tasted like the breading on a Chinese restaurant’s sweet and sour chicken. It felt more like you took a cook that had never made Italian food before and told them the basics of what it should be like and they did their best.
All of this being said, I will probably give this place another shot. Like I said earlier, the chicken was great and I saw a neighboring table get what looked like a really good pizza. So this is probably the place for you if you’re wanting a good handmade pie, calzone, sandwich or chicken tenders but they were 0-2 on pasta dishes.
1.) The turkey and cheese sub literally had 2 very thin slices of turkey on the whole entire large roll and NO cheese. The sub was more roll than anything.
2.) The Philly cheesesteak. I ordered EXTRA meat and EXTRA cheese and there was neither. The meat was way overcooked/burnt.
I ordered these to go so I didn’t see what they looked like until I got home.
I spent $35 on two subs with barely any meat and no cheese and 2 orders of fries.
If I had felt like going back out I would have driven back there and asked for my money back.
I do not recommend the subs if you actually want a meal that will satisfy you or that’s worth what you pay for them.
I was greeted with oh you placed a to go order I was about to close the doors for future reference we close at 8!!! Well then I get home and I get this I can make at home so first where are the real clams??? This is out of a damn can !!!! And their white sauce is white cheese …seriously I want my money back..I order a side of fries I asked for well done well it was soggy so it was in my air fryer lol
Now that second photo is from CAPRI now that is made with CLAMS!!!!! Go there people man is humble best food ever no cheese real white sauce ⭐️
I tried to like Nonna’s, but it just was not to be. The inside is severely dated and in need of some improvements. I was there during the dinner hour and was alone. Not a sole other than myself and the staff.
I had the seafood pasta dish, it was not great. Seriously, I do not know how anyone with taste buds could praise the food. I also took home a small pizza, which I was not impressed with either.
I do not wish to just trash this place, the service was polite and great. I was not thrilled with the outburst from the kitchen.
Regardless, I cannot recommend this place. If I get brave, I may come back and try a different dish. But I do not see this happening in the near future.
