Nong’s Khao Man Gai is a Portland gem that specializes in a simple yet absolutely delicious Thai dish: chicken and rice. The concept is simple, but the execution is flawless. The chicken is tender and juicy, served over perfectly cooked jasmine rice that has been subtly flavored with chicken fat. The highlight, though, is the dipping sauce—spicy, savory, and with just the right balance of sweetness and tang. The minimal menu focuses on perfecting this one dish, and it’s clear that the staff is committed to quality. The restaurant has a casual vibe, with a few tables inside and a lot of people grabbing takeout. The service is fast and friendly, and despite the simplicity of the menu, Nong’s delivers a meal that will leave you craving more. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or enjoying it as a dinner, Nong’s Khao Man Gai will not disappoint.

I got the #1 recommend to get a side of the peanut sauce and one of the best peanut sauces I have ever had. The staff were super nice and the food came out 5 minutes after we sat down. Clean atmosphere and they have all of their sauces and to go containers available so you don’t have to ask and it’s not messy. Will definitely be back!

I just can’t say enough about how much I love this place!
Ordered the Khao Man Gai and it was fabulous. Love the bitter melon soup and fermented sauce SO so much. The free self serve hot tea is lovely. Make sure to get some!
This spot is cozy and street parking is free on Sunday! It is a bit spendy so I don’t come often.

Being a fairly frequent customer for 10yrs, Like so many places that were amazing yrs ago, places scale up, have changes in ownership and unfortunately the inevitable happens, they get sloppy and lose what made them stand out only a few years back. This place lost its quality control, yeah its not bad but now its just mediocre. A great example of this is the obvious lack of care in sauces and serving cuts of chicken with fat and gristle. Needless to say this didn’t happen back when they were establishing themselves.
Pull your socks up boys, have a little more pride in the kitchen, get back in the game, owners don’t sit on your laurels, new places occur all the time. buck up.

We tried the pork knuckle rice #4 and the chicken rice #1 here. For the chicken, the white meat was a bit dry, while the dark meat tasted much better. The pork knuckle was very tender and well braised, and the rice was soaked with the sauce, which made it really flavorful. The rice dishes are definitely worth ordering.
I wouldn’t recommend the Thai milk tea. The cup was very small, about the size of my palm, and it was a bit overpriced for the portion.

Such a simple dish but I feel many restaurants don’t make it right (at least to my taste buds) it’s made so authentic here. The sauce bar area was a pleasant surprise. Of course, I loaded up on a lot of spice and it took the dish to a whole new level. The complimentary tea and cucumber water was another pleasant surprise. 10/10 highly recommend.

As authentic of Thai comfort food as you can get this side of the Pacific. I got the khao mun gai yai piset with the soup and chicken livers and hearts. Topped with a great tangy soy-garlic sauce, it took me back to when we used to picnic out in the countryside on occasion during my stay in rural Thailand. Until last night I hadn’t had that flavor for nearly thirty years. Thank you for the nostalgia. I will be back.
By the way, you know a place is good when it’s full of Thais and other Asian folks as customers. This place was bustling, but I was pleasantly surprised when I hadn’t even finished my free cup of ginger tea when my order was ready! Lightning quick, like less than 5 minutes !

Top notch food.
Seriously, so good. Simple, but bursting with flavor. We got the chicken and the pork dish. Everything was phenomenal and I would eat it all again. I also got the lychee margarita which was delicious.
This is pretty much a self service location. You order at a kiosk and you bus your own table. Personally, I don’t fully understand why gratuity is set at a minimum of 18% with that level of service, but that might just be me.
Overall, the food is 100% worth visiting for!

If you’re looking for a soup to warm you from cold weather or to get over a sickness, the Super soup is the way to go! The menu is small, only a handful of items, but what is done, is done well. There’s complimentary tea and cucumber water as well!
