We also got the crème brûlée cheesecake which was incredible & the tiramisu !!
Due to booked out reservations and the hype we booked a reservation in January to celebrate my birthday in March. The reservation specifically asked if it was a special occasion (I feel like it wouldn’t have mattered if I filled this part out or not).
1. It’s not clear that you’re supposed to go to the other hostess upstairs if you have a reservation to check in.
2. When we checked in (upstairs) we were seated right away, but waited 30+ minutes to be acknowledged. Busboys and servers passed us both ways with full water pitchers (6+ times) and nobody offered to fill our glasses. My wife and I literally felt like we were invisible. We reached out and touched each other to make sure we were both real and we were actually where we thought we were and not dreaming
3. A server who wasn’t in the area previously noticed us (props to Adam) and filled our glasses. He took us on even though he wasn’t originally assigned to us (not sure if anyone was assigned to us).
***Adam was great and apologized (even though it wasn’t HIS fault) did a great job getting us drinks right away—1st round on the house (and a drink menu with a cocktails list in it, since the one we first got had that page missing). He also brought us bread and had the kitchen split a Cesar Salad in two plates for us even though we didn’t ask him to do so (he was great at anticipating needs/wants). 10/10 for trying to flip the situation on its head and make it an enjoyable experience and showing us we were valued. He knew the menus and was able to make great suggestions for drinks/wine to pair with food.
Looking past the issues we experienced (willing to say it was a lightning strike) the atmosphere of the upstairs dining room was on point. The piano music was soothing (Billy Joel and Elton John classics).
For a high end elegant restaurant like this it probably would have helped to have a manager on the floor to oversee and take care of the overall customer service experience (They even have one of these at Jacob & Anthony’s). If our server Adam (who again was awesome) didn’t smooth it over we probably would have just got up and left…(I use to work in the restaurant industry for more than a decade so I don’t say this lightly…)
I was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday with my wife here (as lame as that sounds). With all the hype and positive reviews I had seen I thought it was going to be a slam dunk of an evening…maybe my expectations were set too high with all the buzz…I just couldn’t get the bad taste out of my mouth from the beginning…I felt unimportant…not wanted…better off going to anywhere else…somewhere I felt acknowledged (not looking for special treatment).
I hope lots of other people post their 5 start reviews to counter-act this one. I’m providing this review because I know this restaurant doesn’t deserve a 4 star review. I really think that it was inexperience on the front of the house end. (Starting as a busboy myself in my younger years, having experience with hosting)…mistakes were made and the people who made the mistakes…weren’t aware that they even made mistakes…and didn’t try to do anything to own up or rectify them. I just think they need someone with experience to guide them/manage the front of the house experience…
The entrées took things to another level. The Chilean Sea Bass was cooked to perfection; silky, flaky, and incredibly fresh, while the seafood scampi was loaded with tender seafood in a perfectly balanced, garlicky sauce.
Dessert was the perfect finale. The crème brûlée cheesecake was absolutely superb, blending creamy cheesecake with that classic caramelized top for a flawless finish.
