Sher-e-Punjab turned out to be a very reliable place for Indian food in Phu Quoc. Despite seeing a few mixed or negative reviews online, my experience was quite the opposite. During my three-day stay, I visited this restaurant every single day, and the food and service were consistently good.

The flavors were authentic and satisfying, especially the curries and breads. Spice levels were well balanced, and the food tasted freshly prepared each time. Vegetarian options were available, which was a big plus.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and service was prompt even when the restaurant was busy. The ambience is simple and functional—not fancy, but comfortable enough to enjoy a relaxed meal.

Of course, taste can be subjective, but based on my repeated visits, I genuinely don’t agree with the bad reviews. If anything, the consistency over multiple meals impressed me the most.

The Candid Critic
I recently visited Sher-e-Punjab in Phu Quoc for lunch, hoping for a good Indian meal, but it was a disappointing experience. We ordered jeera rice, mixed vegetables, and dal. The jeera rice tasted stale, almost like it had been cooked the previous day. The mixed vegetables were bland and lacked any real flavor, and the dal was underwhelming and not memorable. Overall, the food quality was poor and far below what I expected from an Indian restaurant.

The ambience made things worse. The walls had patchy paint, and there were insects flying around, which made dining uncomfortable. Cleanliness and maintenance seemed neglected, which added to the negative impression.

What surprised me most is that Sher-e-Punjab has over 700 Google reviews. Don’t be fooled by the number—many of the reviews are actually negative or mediocre, and based on my experience, it’s hard to see how the restaurant earned such high ratings.

If you’re looking for authentic and tasty Indian food in Phu Quoc, I strongly recommend skipping Sher-e-Punjab. Maharaja Lounge is a far better choice, with fresher, flavorful dishes and a much more pleasant dining environment. I cannot recommend Sher-e-Punjab at all—it’s not worth your time or money.

To the owner – who replied back on my review I paid for my meal like every other customer, so I have every right to share my experience. Finishing a plate doesn’t magically erase issues with quality, and it definitely doesn’t mean the feedback isn’t valid. What I didn’t expect was a defensive essay instead of a simple acknowledgment.

Pointing fingers at customers, questioning their intentions and then bragging about reviews from mostly non-Indian diners doesn’t address the real issue. If you put half the energy into improving the food and service that you put into arguing online, you’d benefit far more.

Feedback isn’t an attack. It’s information you can use. Instead of trying to discredit anyone who doesn’t praise you, maybe take a moment to reflect on what people are actually saying.

I shared my experience honestly. What you choose to do with it is up to you.

We had a lovely dinner here last night. The food was tasty and portions generous. Biryani was well flavoured and the chicken pieces in it were plentiful and succulent. The tandoori chicken for starters was also a highlight. Staff were friendly and well conversant in English. Menu had photos too help you make your choice. Restaurant has fans and air conditioning. Rustic look but good food and pleasantness. And it is very reasonably priced for Indian cuisine — €29 for three starters(shared), two main courses, and two soft drinks. Really can’t be beaten and definitely one I’d recommend

Had a very good experience at Sher-e-Punjab Indian Restaurant. The food was tasty with plenty of flavour, and the customer service was warm and attentive.

It was great to know that the chicken dishes are halal, which was perfect for me.

Overall, a nice place to enjoy a flavourful meal with good service.

Great affordable food.
Fast service and tasty food.
Dinner for two, we had butter chicken, curry shrimp with basmati rice and of course naan bread.
Curry and butter chicken had five pieces each and lots of sauce to finish with naan.

This is hands down the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever experienced which is in Phu Quoc, Vietnam. Whether in Singapore, Vietnam, or India, I’ve never had such incredibly flavorful and authentic Indian cuisine. The quality of the food is outstanding—rich in taste, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care.

I’ve recommended this place to so many of my friends. The staff here are genuinely warm, attentive, and welcoming, which makes the dining experience even more enjoyable.

Highly recommended!
