Definitely a hole in the wall family restaurant! Excellent service, with very kind and helpful servers and extremely good turnaround on all food. We had an egg allergy and the food was modified. However, the rolls were not consistent when we ordered it twice.

Ordered the extra-large sushi, maki roll & sashimi family platter at Niwa Japanese Restaurant. The fish quality was very fresh and the flavour was excellent, and the presentation was nicely done. Most of the platter consisted of nigiri with limited selection, and for the higher price point there wasn’t much variety in the fish. The maki rolls and sashimi cuts were also on the smaller side. Overall though, the freshness and flavour were great, making it a solid experience despite the limited variety.

We’ve been coming here for take out for over 15 years and have only dined in a couple times. This visit we decided to dine in and enjoy our food experience in person.
Friendly attentive wait staff. Amazing sushi chefs. Spicy tuna, salmon and dynamite rolls with veggie gyoza and a two mugs of green tea. A delicious night out.

We walked in without a reservation and we were seated immediately. After the waiters were so nice and we were treated with nothing but kindness. We ordered a bento, the seafood udon, the fire salmon roll, and a piece of uni sushi (sea urchin.)Unfortunately, we were told that the uni wasn’t available. Slightly disappointing but totally understandable. Apart from that, we had a marvellous time. Fire salmon roll was delicious but slightly too spicy. This is a great spot for authentic sushi. If you’re looking for a restaurant that perfectly replicates the tastes of Japan, this is your place. We will certainly be coming back for another visit.

When you look at restaurants you typically look at the atmosphere, style, design of the restaurant. That’s what Niwa is missing. It looks kind of sketchy. However, the food will take your mind away from the older looks and bring your attention to how good the food is. My mom, dad and I went to try out this place for dinner, I was sceptical at first. But I decided to try it anyways. Good service, not busy at all. Shrimp tempura was amazing!! We ordered a bunch of sushi, it was so good. And I am obsessed with sushi so it was one of the best ones I’ve ever tried. Their sushi won’t disappoint you. The volcano rolls, dynamite rolls, and green dragon were my favourite:)))

Best sushi in Oakville, in GTA even. The freshness and taste can’t be beat. My favourite is the salmon fire roll, haven’t tasted anything like it anywhere else. Also they got a great party tray that’s just different dragon rolls, none of that cucumber roll nonsense.

I am writing to share my disappointment regarding our December 31, 2025 order. We have been loyal customers for two decades, but the service we received was unacceptable.
Even though we ordered 3.5 hours in advance of our 6:30 PM pickup. Our order was delayed by half an hour. To make matters worse, the hot dishes (tempura, teriyaki, and soup) were cold since they were likely sitting while the sushi trays were being prepared. When I called to speak to a manager, I was told they were unavailable.
Because of this lack of care and the poor quality of the food, we will no longer be ordering from Niwa.

This is a genuine 5 star place with no doubt. I have been there more than once and it exceeded my expectations every time even more. Try dinner sashimi plates, very tasty and very good price.

Went for lunch and really had an enjoyable time. Small mom and pop restaurant in a strip mall that is nicer inside than outside. You wouldn’t guess from the sign that the place unremarkable. Decor is pleasant and fitting, with the sushi prep counter right in the middle. Limited seating with booths too, but when we went it seemed like they were short staffed and service was not fast. Food was fresh and nicely presented. Good variety with Korean menu items also included in the mix. Prices are average. Large parking lot, but it is busy. Other restaurants are near by as backup.
