Nita’s Gumbo recipe originated in the New Orleans kitchen of the late Irving Sheldon Jones. He moved to Chicago in 1921 but kept his Louisiana roots alive by making time for the authentic French-Creole styled Gumbo he loved to make. Irving passed along his recipe to his daughter Anita, and taught her how to make the most important ingredient in any Gumbo…the roux! For hours Anita would watch her father cook with pride whenever he prepared this Louisiana family recipe. It was here she learned the art of cooking, embraced the joy of creating and, under his watchful eye, mastered the techniques behind the taste of his intoxicating Gumbo.

Note: This review is for the carryout place in Stoney Island!
Just have to be patient when ordering, especially ordering online – you’re better off just come in and order at the window. It is a carry-out only place.
I’m adding photos so you can see the menu and prices. Although their prices have increased by about $0.50 for each items.
They don’t do full orders anymore. Which is fine by me because their half orders are plenty.
Ordered this place on Uber eats. I paid $20 for the gumbo, $15 for the combo gumbolaya, the $20 gumbo came in a MUCH smaller container than the Combolaya. So I know in the future to avoid this place via delivery.
I had great experiences in person. I just want folks to know via delivery they’re swindling you. I dreamed ALL DAY about this gumbo and got screwed.
EDIT!!: The restaurant replied and I will increase my previous service rating for the promptness of the response. The food difference in the two items still felt significant to me though. I did combine items in a larger bowl and felt I had less food for $20 than my partner for $15. The food is delicious but I still felt I should’ve had more as she did. I know next time to order use both a combo-laya as the way it’s combined and packed felt more full.
Food still amazing. Edited my review to improve my opinion on service and overall. The restaurant offered a thorough explanation of packaging, as I said I just still felt I had less food in the end due to the packaging.
