Extremely disappointed to have received pieces of raw Tandoori salmon. Flavor was very bland, rancid smell, and was confused to see that there were carrots and cabbage (also not cooked enough) included. When ordering this same dish multiple times, I always received what I expected the first time trying it (grilled vegetables and a very flavorful cooked salmon)! However today’s experience has left me with a bitter taste in my mouth. Please do better Nirvana and send out what customers expect each time. Switching the recipes is not required of you.

A welcome addition to Chestnut Hill! We would go back and encourage you to give Nirvana a try.

We dined in, the atmosphere was a bit more formal and quiet than expected. I recommend you call ahead for reservations as the dining room capacity is limited- though we were lucky enough to get a table without one. Bring cash if you wish to avoid a small credit card service fee.

Onto the food! Everything was good, but maybe not the best if being critical. We ordered vegetable samosas, garlic naan, baigan bharta and alu saag. The samosas came out lukewarm and could have used better spice. The alu saag only had a few small pieces of potatoes and could have used more. The naan was good, you won’t be disappointed. They were accommodating with BYOB as well.

Overall I would give the edge in flavor, service and value to New Era in Chestnut Hill. However I will come back to compare again and have no issues support them both!

I say this as a frequent customer who has celebrated many birthdays and family dinners here. It is one of our favorite restaurants – the best Indian in our opinion in the Philadelphia area. With that said, the last 2-3 times we have been in, I am sad to see MAJOR TLC lacking in the restaurant interior. The walls and back door are very dirty. Bathroom needs to be cleaned up and some work. Interior walls need to be painted and chairs need to be cleaned. Our favorite mushroom appetizer recently changed and the menu didn’t note it changed. It used to be served on nice cast iron hot plates with onions and pepper. It was recently served on a bed of cold cabbage in what looked like an aluminum hot plates. Mushroom size was smaller, shriveled and not as juicy. Service was very slow which is not the norm. Please take some attention to change the trajectory here. We miss the old standards!

Ordered the Gobi Manchurian, the Nirvana Shahi Paneer and (at the recommendation of my waitress, who was absolutely correct), the Peshwari naan, and everything was incredible. You know when you are eating lunch and are excited that you are going to have leftovers and get to eat it again for dinner? That was this meal.

The food ended up being very very good and flavorful, I just didn’t like the fact that they make you go through the back door, the layout of the store could be way better. Nonetheless the food was amazing!

Quite literally followed our noses here for an amazing lunch! Had the lamb biryani – simply fantastic! The rice was incredibly tasty and the lamb tender as can be. I ordered a spicier version of the dish (5/7), and was very happy with the spice levels. For those wary of eating spicy, the side yogurt-based sauce was a great cooling option with lightly sweet carrots in it. Last, can’t have biryani without some good naan – the garlic naan was so delicious! Great biryani! Great service! Highly recommend!!

Can’t rate the service or atmosphere because I’ve only ever done delivery but this is consistently some of the best Indian food in Philly. Portions are generous too, which is a plus when the food tastes even better the next day as leftovers! Only thing to consider—the first several times I ordered medium plus and it was the right level of spice for someone who can handle heat but doesn’t want to suffer. The most recent time medium plus was almost mild. Not sure if they’ve scaled back the spice or if it was a one off fluke.

A warm and elegant restaurant, with kind services and delicious food! Loved the naan and paneer tiki masala. The only issue was the food taking an hour and 20 minutes to come out, but besides the wait, I loved the place!
