We decided to try Niijii restaurant in the Grand Traverse Resort for Traverse City Restaurant Week. The picture of the food on the flyer looked excellent. It as a good atmosphere and the service was good. We were the only people in the restaurant. What we were served was a vail attempt at gourmet food. 3 course meal for $25.00 per person. The 1st course was Brie with fig. The main dish was a ONE SQUARE INCH piece of cold Sea Bass. Just horrible! The 3rd course was a dried out cake like substance with some strawberry confit.
We left probably more hungry than when we went in. $65 not including tip. This place is a hard pass. We were lucky that there is a McDonalds down the road.
Look at the pictures on their AD. I think it false advertising.

Dined for Restaurant week, and the Prix Fixe menu was absolutely delightful and unique. Deisha was our server, and she was exceptional! We will be back soon.

Went on Valentine’s Day when they had a set menu ($75/person) with 3 courses in which you were able to choose each course and was nice despite being limited. Waitress Deisha was great and picked up on our playfulness and added to it. Atmosphere would have been better if they could have dimmed the overall lighting. Would go again.

Warmly welcomed. Attentive and knowledgeable waiter, shot out to Paul because he did a great job.
Ambiance is nice and comfortable and quiet enough to enjoy conversation.
My opening course was their watercress salad. It was a nice light and fresh start to the meal.
My main course was the Seared Maple Bay Chicken Breast. The chicken was cooked perfectly and very moist and tasty. The beet risotto was a little lacking, perhaps a little more beet to get more flavor and amp up the color a bit? And cut down on the amount, it was a very big glob.
My dessert course was their Mocha Chip Eclair. This is where the wheels fell off for me. There were no mocha chips, there was actually zero filling in the entire pastry (same for both of us who ordered it). It was an empty eclair shell with dark chocolate on top which made it extremely dry and offputting. It looked good, just wasn’t. If they have corrected that error, it would be worth trying.
Good concept for a restaurant and if they tweak a few things i think it could be very good.
I tasted the Red Deer Meatballs another at the table ordered and they were excellent. Same with the Braised Stag Gnudi – very good.
And….the Bourbon Pecan Shortbread Bar was tremendous!
My meal was only 3 star.
But if you chose the correct combo you could get a 4 star meal here – and the fact that it was only $25?!
Could be a real bargain if you choose wisely!

Wish I could give zero stars. This restaurant should be embarrassed for their service and what food they put out. We came for Valentine’s day and the whole place had 6 people in it which should have been our first clue. They messed up everyone’s order in the restaurant because we could hear everything going on in this dead place. Then they brought us someone else’s order. Drinks took 15 mins to get for some reason which is weird because the wait staff demanded we order immediately as if the queen was coming. We spent $200 on 3 oysters, a slimy old fish stick, and dessert that should put anyone making it in jail. Would not recommend. A couple asked if we just ate there and we told them our thoughts. They said they asked because they looked at reviews and got scared so they cancelled their reservation. A gas station hot dog would have been better.

We’ve been to NIIJII often, both for events and when our group is the only table with patrons. For events, it’s awesome, it’s staffed up, food is fantastic and service is impressive. But at other times, for regular service, it’s takes too long to get your meals and the menu is hit or miss, sometimes the same as Jack’s Taproom, it’s sister venue just down the hall (where it seems drink orders are filled).

Second time I’ve dined since Chef Ryan took over. Staff was friendly & attentive. Food was exceptional. Prices and options were so phenomenal I wanted to order the other options I didn’t pick. Kudos!!!!

Have been coming to GTR for more than 25 years and this location in the resort has always struggled to produce a true “great” restaurant. The refresh of the space is great and the service was above average. We visited on Thanksgiving week which was very slow, so the service was exactly what you’d expect. The other low ratings here are not accurate for our experience as the food was good, and the service was great with one person working. We will be back in hopes of a repeat performance.

I had the corned beef hash with gluten free toast. It was very, very good. I almost did not go here because the ratings were so bad, and the food I had elsewhere in the hotel was also not great. I didn’t want to leave the hotel so I gave it a try. I was thrilled with breakfast. The corned beef hash was perfect, homemade, well seasoned. The gluten free toast was probably the best I’ve ever had. The servers were lovely. 10/10 breakfast I’d gladly eat it again.

Breakfast buffet was cold and although they ended up not charging me it was just like they weren’t too concerned. I mentioned the cold eggs, cold bacon and waitress said the streno was out. And the coffee was weak. Ugg.
Dinner wasnt good either..corned beef sandwich had more like dried beef, weird seeded mustand. The
tomato bisque soup was really spicy and no crackers or bread with it. Chips that came with sandwich had a weird smell almost like the stereo infused the chips.
The facilities were tastefully done though.
