Hungry for a great dog or cheeseburger in a friendly, clean place? Then head to Nick’s Char pit. Delicious food, fast and friendly service. We have driven by it for years and finally went in.
We were pleasantly surprised given its cleanliness and friendly folks. The menu has many tasty items. We liked how they do it. You go to the counter and order your food. Once prepare, you pay then find a table.
We also met the current owner who is Nick’s grandson, a real nice person. Stop in if you’re nearby. You won’t be disappointed.

I finally made a stop to the restaurant and could’ve been happier. The order was based on the “specials list” during a busy period to see how well the kitchen would perform without the muscle memory of the regular menu.
Chef Bobby and his team nailed it with both skill and professionalism. I paid attention to how the stress and pressure that happens when customers are both waiting to order, or waiting for their order, play its role in the outcome of service. 5 stars all day.
The food was exactly what I was looking for. To add to it, I’ve been craving pastrami for the past two weeks, so I knew whoever made it for me was under extra scrutiny. The steak and cheese egg rolls were both perfectly cooked and had the correct texture inside and out.
The restaurant is located between I91, exit 8, and exit 9. It’s located on RT17 on the North Haven and New Haven line.

Nick’s is always delivers, food is always top shelf, nothing like a charred burger and hot dog. As part of my daughters birthday celebration we stopped at Nick’s with my grandsons to have a bit to eat…. again they did not dissapoint

Nick’s has been my favorite since I was a kid, now I bring my own kid there. The fried food is never oily and greasy, it’s perfect. The lobster roll is massive and I love their steak sandwich. Open grilled burgers, dogs, etc. Amazing food and such friendly staff.

We were three adults for dinner and ordered the seafood platter. So much food we had trouble finishing. White fish, clams, calamari, shrimp, scallops, onion rings, fries, coleslaw…It was a feast that we thoroughly enjoyed! Great service. Reasonable price.

Right off 91 on exit 8. Great place for some foot long Hot Dogs. Can’t go wrong with these. Reasonably priced. Also had some fries and onion rings both were great! I bet their other fried food is good too. I would recommend this place to anyone that loves a good hot dog and some fried food.

The staff is very pleasant. Nice people. I’ll have to visit again and maybe next time if I try something different I’ll give more stars. I had a cheeseburger and to be totally honest for the price it was not worth it. My burger was not very big at all. I can say the taste was great. If you do get a burger from here make it a double. My company had the shrimp and because she’s a seafood eater I’ll have to take her word for it and say what she said which was it’s average at best. Sorry for the low rating. I will try again!

Bobby carries the banner of three generations of honest fare cooked in plain sight at fair prices in a clean, clean, clean setting with justifiable pride and gracious hospitality. How could we have missed this gem for so long since we knew the very boat that catches Bobby’s clams !
