6 stars! They wooed me in with the wonderfully detailed gluten-free menu and warmed my soul with Grandma’s Chicken. I’m not a huge fan of chicken breast, because too often it’s overcooked or under seasoned. But this chicken was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and topped with a delicious Gouda cheese sauce. The jalapeño cheese grits were tasty and happily not spicy. I love green beans and mine were perfectly cooked. Hubby loved the well seasoned and perfectly cooked meatloaf with creamy, cheesy mashed potatoes, and buttered peas. My son enjoyed the French dip with creamy Mac n cheese – giving it a 9.5/10. My spaghetti aficionado was happy with the adult size linguine with meat sauce (not on the menu, but they were more than happy to provide). Liberty our server was very helpful and accommodating, she made our day. I started off with a warm tea- chosen from a lovely variety of organic teas. We finished our meal with 2 gluten-free chocolate cakes which were rich and satisfying, and the biggest brownie I have ever seen topped with ice cream and hot fudge. Bonus, because it was our first time they did not charge us for two desserts! So a family of four with 4 meals , 3 desserts, 3 sodas, hot tea, and 3 desserts cost just $99. We will definitely eat here again when we’re back in Kansas City.

Food was great and was out to our table in less than 10 minutes. That’s fast for a restaurant that has waiting customers. Service was excellent our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and business. Thanks Meg!

I’ve had several meals here in the past and they were always very good. We came in today for a New Year’s meal with my husband, who had never been to Nick & Jake’s before. Our waitress was wonderful, very attentive and patient while answering all of my husband’s questions.

We started with drinks and the pot stickers, which were excellent and absolutely worth ordering. For our entrées, my husband ordered Grandma’s chicken, and I chose the fish special: crab crusted cod with saffron risotto and asparagus. The first plate looked beautiful, but unfortunately the food was ice cold. The fish and risotto tasted like they had just come out of the refrigerator, and the fish in the centre of the plate was slimy.

I let our waitress know, and she apologised and took the plate back. The manager brought out a second plate with many apologies. This time the food was hot, but the presentation was a mess. The fish was crumbled on top of the asparagus, covered in sauce, and had no crust, no crab, and very little flavour. When I moved the asparagus to cut them, the bottom of the plate was swimming in oil.

I spoke with the manager again, and he agreed he wouldn’t eat that dish either. They did make it right on the bill, which I appreciated, but I left disappointed and still hungry. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a good experience, especially for my husband’s first visit, and we won’t be returning.

Nick & Jake’s has become one of our regular spots in Parkville, especially for lunch. The specials are consistently great, the food is well-prepared with quality ingredients, and the overall experience is reliably solid.

The hosts are always friendly, and the servers clearly know what they’re doing — many of them have been here for years, which says a lot about how the staff is treated. That kind of consistency shows.

We also order takeout for dinner often since it’s easier with multiple kids. The kids’ meals are some of the best-tasting and most affordable we’ve found, pickup is always well-staffed, and the food is packaged properly for takeout (which is surprisingly rare).

The bar area is also well done — just upscale enough to keep things pleasant, without being overpriced or stuffy.

Parkville is lucky to have this place.

I travel for work and spend a lot of time at bars. For many, many years. It seems harder to find spots where people are still dedicated and really care about what they do in this industry. I started coming here on my regular rotation in KC in 2018, and this has been my spot since. The food is great, the atmosphere is fun, and there are people working here that remind me why I always sit at the bar. Because sometimes, you find a really good bartender. Andrea operates on a different level. Quick, attentive & knowledgeable. But her, the guy with the beard, the sweet little lady at lunch… these folks have the extra intangibles too. Do yourself a favor… go sit at the bar and ask for Andrea. Thank me later. Well done, Nick and Jakes.

This is not our first trip here. But we become more and more impressed in the menu items each time. We have gone in on date nights, family gatherings and dinner night out with young children. Each time we have had something different, this time around we had the opportunity to watch a magician at work. It was the talk of many tables with small kiddos. We’ll be back again and again.

We enjoyed a lovely evening at Nick & Jake’s in Parkville. It is always a lively place with excellent food and great service. Our server Kourtney was exceptional delivering beverages and edibles from the fast and efficient kitchen. Starting with the Chilli Crusted Ahi Tuna and a bowl of Crab Bisque out taste buds were inspired. We followed those with the Surf & Turf 6oz filet, cooked to a perfect rare, served with large shrimp and a hollandaise sauce that was the bomb! Toss in a couple of sluggers and our evening was complete. Great job to Kourtney and the team. We will be back.

We had a great experience at Nick and Jake’s. The service was incredible, they brought out Cheese-Its and grapes for the kids. That was a complete life saver so we could enjoy lunch without screaming kids. There were so many other families it makes since to see what makes this restaurant so special. We had a crab cake appetizer that was awesome! I ordered the ribs that were fall off the bone tender! I highly suggest dining at Nick and Jake’s and we will be returning!

Had dinner last night with my husband and some family. I ordered the SoCo Hurricane, which was yummy… didn’t really taste or feel the alcohol. He ordered an old fashion, which he said was good. I got the club sandwich with fries. The fries were seasoned and warm, and the sandwich was HUGE! He ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. Both of our plates tasted good, and we both left with leftovers. Our family ordered ta salad and the Cajun steak and shrimp and thoroughly enjoyed their food as well. Our server was great and on top of all our needs, including refilling water often.

I’ve had a handful of meals here previously and they were all very good. Went today for a happy New Year’s meal with my husband who has not experienced Nick & Jake’s before tonight. Our waitress was wonderful. She was attentive & answered all of my “newbie” husbands questions. We started with drinks & the pot stickers. The pot stickers are fabulous…order them! Ordered our meals, grandmas chicken for him, & the special fish for me. The fish meal was crab crusted cod with saffron risotto & asparagus. 1st cod plate set in front of me looked beautiful. Took a bite of the fish & it was cold. Like out of the refrigerator cold. Took a bite of the risotto, cold! Thought okay, maybe the middle of the plate is better. Took a bite of the fish in middle of plate, slimy fish & again cold. Risotto under the fish cold! Called waitress over, explaining how cold food was, she apologized & took plate back to kitchen. 2nd plate is delivered by manager with lots of apologies. I’m excited, this plate has hot food, even if it looks a mess. The fish is all crumbled & on top of the asparagus with sauce covering the entire plate, but the food is hot. The fish has no crust & no flavor & no crab. I moved the asparagus on the plate to cut them into pieces I could eat & the bottom of the plate is SWIMMING in oil. Called the manager over again, explained the situation & he agreed, he wouldn’t eat that plate of food. They made it right on the bill but damn I’m disappointed & hungry! Not a good experience for us & this being my husband’s 1st time there….we won’t be back!
