First of all, the greeting was terrible. The bartender and waiter on the ground floor looked terrified when I walked in, as if I were the first foreigner to ever enter their restaurant. They acted like they had never received any training on how to greet a foreigner in English.

Secondly, the atmosphere. I understand it’s winter and the temperature won’t be warm, but it’s definitely not cool indoors. They kept the A/C off and only had a standing fan running. Fair enough… but the problem is that the fan was placed by the balcony, facing inward, which means it was pulling outside air directly into the room — along with the pollution. The moment I reached the second floor, the entire room was filled with motorbike exhaust. That was horrible.

Thirdly, the food. For the prices shown on the menu, I expected the plating to be at least “acceptable,” especially for a 500k+ fillet mignon — but it wasn’t. The Greek salad I ordered was more “inspired” than authentic, which I could tolerate, but the sloppy plating and the poor execution on the fillet mignon really annoyed me. I ordered medium, but it came cooked “congratulations” on both sides, with only the center being medium to medium-well. The waitress didn’t give me a steak knife until I asked for one, and she noticed immediately that the beef was overcooked. I told her it was fine since it was still tender enough, and I didn’t want the fillet mignon to be thrown away just because I sent it back. The sauce didn’t impress me either — for a French restaurant, I expected something beyond a typical generic steak sauce, but there was nothing special at all.

As for the service, the waitress on the second floor was friendly but spoke very limited English. The other guy, I’m pretty sure he couldn’t speak any, because every time we called for service, he pushed everything to the lady. Not very professional — they weren’t paying attention to customers whether we were waiting to order or had finished eating, and instead were busy chatting with each other. Another thing, they actually let us sat on a table with dirty tablecloth, and swapped us to another table only after we told them that the table is dirty.

All in all, maybe I should have set my expectations lower. It felt more like a “high-end French eatery,” not actual French dining, and that would’ve made my experience more bearable.

I was disappointed based on other reviews. French onion soup not even close to what it should taste like. I recommend looking up a Julia recipe online and change. The pork was tender, but lacked flavor and the mustard sauce was cold. Service was slow and we had to ask for new plates after the appetizer round (we were sharing the main) and had to ask to remove dirty plates and glasses. We had to go downstairs to ask for the check. Note: we were the only people in the restaurant so service should not have been an issue. Atmosphere was nice

Bread came cold . First time I see a duck confit whose skin wasn’t pan fried to crisp it up . Meat was tough and the inner part of the leg was actually fridge cold . They changed after I gave feedback that the skin should be crispy and leg should be warm . Second leg came , meat was warm but nothing done to the skin at all. Meat was also flavourless though sauce was yummy .maybe they changed a chef who is very inexperienced with french cooking .Very disappointing indeed . No service recovery either . Service was decent .

It’s a nice restaurant, well decorated, with polite staff.
Steak is delicious

Spent last day of the trip at this restaurant and didn’t get disappointed by the service. The waiter was nice and well-mannered, willingly to rearrange our seating area from the smoking zone. Food was 4/5, I reckon it could be better but still can’t really complain anything here!

I thought this place was amazing , from the moment walked in the door until the time we left we were treated like royalty
We were immediately escorted to our private dining area and served the most delicious and elegantly prepared meal I have had in a long time.
The service was spot on very attentive and polite in fact I recommended it to a colleague, who happens to be one of the most discerning foodies on the planet and he too agreed with me Au Delice delivers a superior product at an affordable price.
Finally I decided to make the decision to try this restaurant for myself in spite of the few bad reviews it received and I was pleasantly surprised I thought possibly I was in the wrong place. My experience was superb. The food, service and ambiance were all 5 star. I highly recommend Au Delice for a delightful dining experience

They run a restaurant and a tiny butcher shop, with quite an impressive assortment.

Au Delice is a Hanoi classic that does not disappoint, in fact it is and always has been a favourite gathering place for chefs and insider connoisseurs in Hanoi. On this last trip the food and service was polished, well presented and matched perfectly with the wines. I highly recommend experiencing and re-experiencing this tremendous legacy of hospitality. It’s possible to find here Italian salami, French cheese and Spanish ham. The place is not cheap. But when you live or travel in Vietnam for long it’s so important to find some authentic European food. Nice stuff. I will come back there
