What a great date night spot!! The restaurant has a very cute ambiance and the menu choices are unique & delicious! Everyone loved the blueberry buffalo shrimp & their entrees. Joe was our server and he was the best! He took great care of us and was knowledgeable about the menu.
If I had one suggestion it would be to upgrade the ice cream on the cookie skillet to Valpo velvet vanilla! That would really make it 10/10 amazing!!

We live in Illinois but have a business in Valpo. I love the Mid Century look!!! Austin provided us with outstanding service! We met the chef who cooked our meals. We had the salmon bites, short rib, and pierogis!!!! The first two were our favorites but the pierogis are from Jax in Crown Point so we were familiar with the comfortable taste. The cocktails were made in true Chicago style in reference to taste and presentation! I would definitely recommend. This is the perfect spot for the Chicago newcomers to Valpo and there certainly are a lot of them. We finished with the crème brûlée and another round of well-made cocktails.

It’s not the dish, don’t expect that. As of December 2025, I’d say this place needs a little polishing. The theme is nice but you still get a bit of that diner feeling while going out for a more expensive meal. The meatballs were fantastic and the best part of our experience, everything else was full of flavor for what they were, but no one was particularly thrilled with the selections/variety. Our service seemingly forgot about us a few times. Will be back and update accordingly.

Austin is the shhhhhh! I walked in & he was like, “I haven’t seen you in a while!” Caught me completely off guard! Made me feel so good! His customer service is TOP TIER! The FOOD? No questions asked! It’s SOOO BOMB! I wish I could cuss! Them croutons! GOD HIMSELF HAD A PART TO PLAY IN THOSE! lol THOSE SALMON BITES! Lord Jesus! Just go right now! What are you waiting for?! First time dining at Nextdoor at Birdie’s and had a great experience. Had the Gorgonzola chips, catfish and short ribs all which tasted good. Service was prompt and we were well taken care of. Love the decor, a little retro but not overboard and feels warm and welcoming. Great date night place with the hubby. Nice size menu and cocktail selection, good portions, and fairly priced. Will be back
UPDATE: Went back a second time and another great experience! Hubby had catfish again. I tried the Shrimp and Grits, best I’ve ever had! We also tried the lemon honey cheesecake which was incredible.
We’ve had NADINE as our server a few times now and she is the best! Excellent service.

Service was excellent !!!! Chris and Austin at the bar was nothing short of amazing!!!! They would be the reason I return for more cocktails. Drinks were really good. The atmosphere was refreshing as well. Food was presented greatly but lack flavor. I had the smash Burger and wife ordered the Short rib with Brussel sprouts.

Had the smoked old fashioned, awesome! Ate at the bar, service was outstanding! The steak frittes was on par with anywhere else I have been! Atmosphere very relaxed and cozy! My only wish, as I sat alone, was that I had a date, as an old man of almost 60 with a divorce in my recent past, watching the warm, happy couples all around! Good for them, you have to stay optimistic! It’s a friendly environment here, for sure! Try it!

We celebrated my mom’s birthday and had the best experience! Our server, Taylor was attentive and always checking on our table. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is so fun and GORGEOUS! Multiple times the manager came and took our 3 kids to show them how they light the desserts and let them use their flavor blaster. We loved how family friendly it was, great staff!

First time trying this spot out, came in wanting to try the deconstructed beef wellington. Had Nadine as our server and she was great! Attentive, precise with info, and her recommendations were great. Ended up getting the beef wellington and quite a few more things with her advice. Couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience all around. Will be back!
