Our story begins at home ‘Muthu’, as he is affectionately known by his clients, began his extensive Indian culinary career in 1981 in the southern Indian region of Chennai. From here, Muthu explored other regions of India, expanding his culinary skills in many kitchens, from the southern areas of Chennai to the western coastal regions of Mangaluru. His work then caught the eyes (and stomachs ) of one of India’s most prestigious hotels, the ‘Taj Coromandel’, in Chennai, where he then worked until he moved to the United Arab Emirates as a chef with Emirates airlines flight catering. In 2005, Muthu moved to Malta, where he opening the ‘New Madras’, located in Bugibba. New Madras’

On a cold, windy, mid January, Monday night we made a reservation for this small Indian restaurant tucked away in a side road in downtown Bugibba. This family run gem has been hiding here for 20 years – what an amazing achievement, since it is so low key and offers a very high quality product with minimum fuss and extraordinary service. From the get go we were caught up on their charm offensive with very tasty dipping sauces and crispy poppadoms. Their house speciality called chicken 65 is simply gorgeous while they serve the best onion bhaji’s I have ever had. The mains were no less amazing- I will not describe the creamy lamb in coconut based curry, or the fancy chicken tikka masala or the beef with almond based sauce. Loved the food, the service was great and I’m happy to have just found the best Indian restaurant in Malta.

That naan was not fresh. Right before they brought it to our table we heard microwave beeps from the kitchen. I’m hoping it’s not true, but the taste and texture hints at the same direction. The naan was crispy like a cookie! I didn’t like it.
The curry sauce was OK. Nothing special and wouldn’t make me return.
Atmosphere, they played some weird zen music that made us think we were in a spa waiting room.

Very well-made traditional Indian food. We particularly loved the butter chicken and palak paneer. The papadum starter with the sauces was delicious! I could it eat all day!

Amazing find in Malta for lovers of Indian cuisine. I found *exactly* what I was craving for and thoroughly enjoyed my meal also thanks to the outstanding service here. The prices were alright, definitely not cheap but compared to some other Indian restaurants in St. Paul’s Bay definitely less. Will drop by again to try more delicious meals

The restaurant is consistently clean and tidy, complemented by nice, relaxing music that creates a pleasant atmosphere. This restaurant came recommended so thought we’d give it a try, we liked it that much that we returned within 2 days. The chicken madras was one of the best I’ve ever tried (believe me at 62 years I’ve had a few). Attentive and friendly staff, the price right. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed an excellent meal. The service was most attentive and helpful. Our food was delicious, Pork Vindaloo, Saag Ghost, garlic naan and jeera rice. Good wine list. We over ordered but packing it up to take home was not a problem.
