We’ve been loyal customers of New Japan for years, but the quality has seriously declined. After a bad experience a few weeks ago, we gave it another try tonight. Unfortunately, the chicken teriyaki was undercooked—I even had to re-cook it at home. It feels like there’s been a management change, and the food just isn’t the same. This isn’t to discredit the restaurant, but customers should always feel confident that their meals are prepared properly.

I don’t like to complain or leave bad reviews but I must warn others as I’d want to be warned. The food used to be good. Now it’s subpar. Upon arriving, I asked for extra white sauce and ginger because the containers are only filled halfway. He said I’m only allowed 12 which is really six because they aren’t full. I said I can pay for extra. He said I can only have 12. I insisted as that’s crazy to refuse me what I’m willing to purchase. First star deletion. When we begin eating, my husband said his hibachi chicken tastes strange. It indeed had a strange taste. I’m not sure if it was the chicken or the seasoning but I’m sure the chicken is the culprit. Second star deletion. My hibachi steak was in huge pieces, not cubed like usually and it was tough, not tender. Third star deletion. Lastly, I ordered shrimp tempura rolls, they were not freshly made. They were cold and nasty. I’ve never been given sushi rolls that are cooked/fried yet cold and hard. Fourth star deletion. If I could leave no stars, I would because I shouldn’t pay $62 for food and end up having to toss it and still be hungry. I’m not sure if the management/ownership has changed or what but I should have gone to Japan Express.

Japan would be well within its rights to sue this place for defamation of character. The best thing I can say is that the food was edible, and even that was a stretch.
The hibachi chicken was exceptionally dry, without any seasoning or sauce, and the “fried” rice was white rice that had perhaps lightly grazed the grill before it was slopped into a takeout container. I’m glad I got some of the wateriest white sauce known to man to accompany my dish, as it provided the only hint of moisture in the entire meal.
I visited this restaurant once before, in 2023, and back then it was passable. If you, too, haven’t been back in a while, save yourself the trip. Mall food court hibachi would be a better alternative to this, and probably cheaper, too.

My wife and I went here for dinner some months ago and the quality of the food was abysmal. It made a great impact on us – we look back from time to time and reflect how terrible the food was. We ate a bit but had to dump most of it in the trash. This was hands down the worst eating experience we have ever had in the U.S. How the restaurant has a rating above 3 is a mystery to me.

Steak is terrible. Quality to money spent is not there at all. 14 dollars for a hibachi lunch steak and it’s almost inedible. Don’t be fooled by the old reviews… Maybe it used to be good

The food is pretty good. Made to order. Often the tables are dirty. You order at the counter and they call you back up to the counter when your food is ready. You’re served in styrofoam containers with plastic cutlery. The prices are now EXORBITANT for this type of presentation and service. $12 for chicken and rice with some onions and zucchini??? $16 for steak or shrimp. Get outta here!!

I’m honestly so disappointed with my experience at New Japan today. The first time I ordered from here, the food was okay—except the scallops were undercooked. I decided to give them another chance, and I really wish I hadn’t.
All I ordered was a plate of vegetables, and it was just bad. The carrots tasted old, the broccoli was practically raw (and I actually like my veggies crunchy, but not uncooked!), and the whole plate felt thrown together without care.
Then there’s the white sauce… it was completely watered down and had almost no flavor. When I asked the young lady at the register if they had any that wasn’t watered down, she told me, “This is all we have.” I still asked to try some from behind the counter, and while it was a little thicker, it still wasn’t what it used to be.
I’m really frustrated because I gave this place a second chance, hoping for better, and somehow it got worse. I won’t be coming back — the quality has gone downhill fast.

Quick service with good food and good prices. Their home-made sauces are delicious and we liked the variety. Their white sauce was a little thinner than we prefer, but that could just be a difference in preference.
All of the meat options were very well cooked, with all of the meats remaining quite tender and succulent. We have often had Japanese takeout where the meat would be dry, rubbery, or tough. Not in this case. Very well done.
We enjoyed a pleasant and un-hurried lunch in this nice little take-out/dine-in restaurant.

The food is always hot and fresh. The service is always the best. I love this restaurant. Little suggestion tell that lady that works there to slide over when customers trying to get their sauce.
