While we were wandering around exploring historic downtown New Glarus we passed the New Glarus Bakery. Since we were a little hungry we stopped in for cookies and a pastry. We got the Swiss Croquettes and a Turtle Cream Filled donut. They were delicious! They have a nice variety of cookies and pastries.

The New Glarus Bakery has cases full of beautifully baked items such as bars, cookies, breads and doughnuts. I purchased a lovely looking piece of layer cake and two different types of cookies. After tasting all of these items I am guessing that they were all made with mostly shortening as the fat.

Went in because I had a $5 birthday reward today. Left with… a lot of stuff. I haven’t had anything here I didn’t like. I especially recommend the raisin pumpernickel, that is one of my favorites. Also any of their cheesecake and schnitten varieties (available by the slice, sold by weight) are delicious. Like any bakery you’ll do well to be the early bird, but with a day or two of notice you can order online and pick up whatever you want.
