Neat is a fantastic hidden bar in Boothbay Harbour with one of the best bartenders I’ve ever had the pleasure to serve me. Her drinks are creative, unusual and absolutely delicious. If you love bourbon this is your spot. But I don’t prefer bourbon but love their specialty cocktails. Served in an intimate setting. Exceptional experience. No food service. Limited seating but always worth a wait.

Wish I could give more than 5 stars, seriously the highlight of our trip to Maine. As you look at the closed storefront of Marcel’s Sub Shop after dark, there is a dim glow in the back of the store where Neat Whiskey Bar is located. Emily made the industry sour, which is an intense combination of flavors some completely foreign, her drinks are an amazing experience.

I can’t help myself…we had the “neat”-est experience at Neat in Boothbay Harbor.
I first came across Neat in a local magazine and added it to my running foodie list. During a recent off-season trip to Boothbay, we finally stopped by, and I was genuinely surprised this little whiskey bar exists right in the middle of town. It’s a sub shop during the day, but after hours it becomes this moody, intimate and cozy space with a huge whiskey selection.
I’m a big whiskey fan (not an expert by any means, just a fan), but my husband isn’t, so this could’ve gone either way. To my surprise, the vibe was super relaxed, and by that I mean not even a hint of pretentiousness (that whiskey bars are sometimes known for). The bartender, who also owns the place, was so welcoming and friendly, helpful, and running the whole thing solo like a pro. The whiskey list was wild (it just seemed never-ending), and the cocktail menu had plenty of options for non-whiskey drinkers too (my husband loved his drink!). Plus, sipping drinks while looking out at the harbor?! Can’t beat it.

Your Boothbay “Speakeasy” – offering a wide range of cocktails with local ingredients, and a vast selection of whiskey. A great spot for both travelers and locals alike. Emily, THE bartender, is on another level for making cocktails on and off the menu. Stop by during Marcel’s hours and grab a fresh sub while you’re sipping.

What an awesome spot! A massive compendium of whiskeys of all price ranges and styles. Bartenders were happy to suggest things and made incredible mixed drinks. Tried four different whiskeys while i was there and was happy with all of them. Met a cool Turkish woman outside and smoked a cigarette and talked about seasonal wok. 10/10 experience lol

I wish I had a place like this in my own town. What a find!!! Although a little hard to find (but not really) just follow signage and navigate through the sub shop to the back. Very knowledgeable bartender with epic craft cocktails and an amazing selection of whiskey. But don’t worry, if you don’t like whiskey, they have plenty of other options as well. Excellent vibe and atmosphere. I didn’t want to leave!

Absolutely the coziest, small “speak-easy” we’ve been to. Probably seats no more than 25 souls. Tucked behind a sandwich shop so you have to know where you are going. Great staff; superb ambience, i.e. a vinyl record player playing jazz. Highly recommend. Visited late September.

Absolutely fantastic little bar experience in Boothbay. Feels like a speakeasy in that you need to walk through a closed sub shop. HUGE selection! Love this place!

Highly recommend stopping in for a drink. Bartender Emily is highly skilled and creative! You can see the pride she takes in every drink she mixes. Hands down the best.

Emily is amazing. Definitely one of the best bar (drinks only) experience I’ve had in years. Then she had a spot on dinner recommendation for us.
