As vegans, my friend and I were so impressed with the VEGAN AND VEGETARIAN options that we typically don’t find at most restaurants/resorts on island. Beautiful atmosphere, but the ahi tuna was old with fishy taste, and the avocado was old with brown strikes. Also eat the praised coconut shrimp. What a disappointment! The only taste I felt was the fried batter and the accompanying sauce. Felt nauseated hours after, probably from the deep frying. Draft beer and the service was very good. Go for the views and the libations only!

With the mixed reviews, I was a little apprehensive about eating here. I shouldn’t have been. Yes, it is a little pricy and it did take a couple of minutes for them to seat us, but it was well worth it. We were not staying at this property, and we wanted to see it anyway.
Our server was gracious and gave us some very good recommendations. The view was amazing (the photo that includes the pool was from our seat; the beach photos were from about 20 feet away, on the other side of the pool deck). The coconut shrimp was a great start, and plenty for both of us. The barbecue ribs were so tender that the meat fell off the bone, and there was no need to hold the ribs with my fingers (or get BBQ sauce on them!). For dessert, the Tartufo was very good (and I had no idea what a Tartufo was before this).
All in all, a great experience. We will definitely be back the next time we are on the Big Island.

We had a great time here and we came back for lunch again and it was just the same if not better! Fresh catch tacos were wonderful. The sweet potato fries were crispy and delicious. Drinks were perfect.
Most importantly, U’i and Gen were our servers and went above and beyond and made our experience even better.

Despite the nice presentation, the food here doesn’t live up to the hype or the price. Portions are small, flavours are lacking, and the dishes leave you feeling unsatisfied. While there are some vegetarian and vegan options, they’re quite bland and not at all filling. On the upside, the service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance is pleasant. Unfortunately, that’s not enough to justify the steep cost.

This is a resort, so your expectations should align accordingly. We ordered poolside from the adult pool. While the drinks on the menu are definitely overpriced, the convenience makes it worth it.
The margarita of the day is a must-try—and it’s $5 off from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.! We enjoyed mango one day and lilikoi (passion fruit) the next. The Mai Tai is a classic Hawaiian choice , though the drinks could be a bit stronger.
There are some great light bites to enjoy poolside. We especially loved the hummus plate.
The views can’t be beat! The service was kind and prompt, making the experience even more enjoyable.

Wow great service and delicious entrees at the Westin pool bar Naupaka Grill. Went with the loco moco (with Tabasco sauce – server suggestion) OMG incredible. Also nice visit with little miss Marley cat, the friendly resident of the pool area. 15 years going strong! We had a genuinely disappointing experience at the Westin Hapuna poolside bar. We originally had a reservation, but the staff refused to honor it because we were in swimwear — even though it’s a poolside bar, and we had been drinking there 10 minutes earlier in the exact same attire with no issue. I even have photos showing this, so the sudden rule enforcement felt inconsistent and confusing.
What made this especially frustrating is that we actually came back because we thought the atmosphere was child-friendly. We brought our toddler and nanny specifically so we could swim together and then have dinner at the bar. We were planning to order several dishes.
The server also told my husband he needed to put on a shirt, despite having just served him shirtless on our previous visit. The shift in attitude felt unnecessary and honestly a bit hostile.
To add to this, we had already tried room service on Thursday with the same food items, and the meals arrived cold and soggy. So experiencing poor food quality and unfriendly, inconsistent service at the bar was disappointing for a resort at this level.
Overall, we left because the experience made us feel unwelcome — not because of the rules themselves, but because of how unevenly and abruptly they were applied. We hope management addresses this so future guests, especially families, can feel comfortable and respected.
Update: I want to add that the manager on duty was incredibly understanding and compassionate after hearing our concerns. She went above and beyond to make things right by comping our cabana, and we truly appreciated her effort to turn the experience around.

We got there and immediately got seated the strawberry daiquiri was really good! I got the coconut shrimp for the appetizer it that was super good! Than I got the famous spicy fries and those were super good! The only bad part is that it smelled like chlorine being the fact that it’s right by a pool but overall it’s a good place to have dinner!
