So I’ve seen Nation’s around but had never tried one. Someone once told me it’s their favorite hamburger place so when I came back from camping in the Sierra I thought I’d give it a try. It’s literally right next to McDonald’s and In-n-out so it’s probably got plenty of competitions.
The entrance is hard to get to because McDonald’s blocked the way on the other side. The interior reminds me of In-n-out although the name conjured up images of local rustic burger stands. This is much more modern than the name suggests and when I got it I had to readjust my preconceptions because it’s more of a small IHOP than a burger joint. It has more pies on display and more breakfast on the menu than the burger menu. In fact I noticed more people order breakfast there while I was waiting for food. The breakfast is the standard egg and pancake varieties so probably a good place for breakfast if you don’t want to wait for seating at other local breakfast places. The pies are huge and have enough varieties that it’s probably ok.
I however came here for the namesake burgers. The burger is alright. It’s light on the sauce and stuffed with more lettuce, onions and tomatoes than the actual burger meat. I think the other stuff overwhelmed the meat itself. The taste for the burgers is a little underwhelming and reminds me of the taste of whoppers in Burger King.
It’s not bad but nothing impressed me enough to seek this place out unless I’m looking for pies or breakfast.
Service is good for this kind of place and it irked me whenever a fastfood location asks for tips. However they do give you real plates.

I really wanted to like this place. I love these old regional chains. The restaurant is very clean. The employees were friendly. It was a little pricey and I just didn’t think the burger was anything special. Mine had a ridiculous amount of lettuce and onions. Too much. The ratio was all off and the beef patty was lost in all the salad. I didn’t like the sauce and unfortunately there was a lot of that too. There just wasnt enough beef on the bun to overcome all the toppings. The pie was excellent and served on a real plate with a real metal fork which I appreciated. The fries were nothing special but were hot and fresh.
So….not for me but I get why people like it.

First time in awhile I’ve been here, last time I was here was when they had the old fries. The new fries are much crispier then the old from what I can recall. The Chili Hot Dog was delightful as well. Definitely did not expect them to change recipes.

I’m very disappointed in the customer service at the front they were not welcoming and on top of that when our order was ready she purposely didn’t call it out a customer had to tell me but she called out the previous numbers before us. There was melted buttered covering both the meals we got causing a huge mess with the butter melting through the bottom. There has to be a better way I couldn’t imagine ordering door dash through them ..

My burger was perfect! I forgot how good this California classic spot is! Their produce on the burger was crisp and fresh. The cashier was very chipper and sweet. I like that you can see the kitchen and it is clean, as was the whole restaurant. The fries were crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside, very good! I came back to add: the staff is always cheerful and attentive!

I had a good experience at Nations. I ordered a hamburger, and it was fresh and flavorful — exactly what you want when you’re craving a classic, well-made burger. What really stood out, though, was the customer service. The staff was genuinely kind, welcoming, and attentive, which made the visit feel comfortable and enjoyable. Good food and good people.
