This establishment is absolutely terrible now. Sad to say from someone who dined here years ago. Go somewhere else where your money will get you something moist, tender, and flavorful. Unless you are ordering the baked potato or a burger, avoid this place like the plague. Dryest brisket i’ve EVER had. And only 3 small cuts of chicken breast? Not to mention the small scoops of the sides? I ordered ribs when I called in but they told me ribs weren’t available when I came to pick up. This plate was $27. And she gave me a discount for the dry brisket because of the ribs issue which was nice. But imagine if I ordered this super dry brisket to begin with. $30 for this plate??? You’ll have better luck going to LJs, truth, or any other place. Nathan’s has gone downhill tremendously

Bbq was good…had pork butt and brisket. Green beans need more flavor, but cole slaw was delicious and fresh. I really didn’t like trying to order without menu prices.

I could not rate this place higher for several reasons. Only two people at tables when I arrived. Then nobody was going through the order line but me. It took me 20 minutes to get a two meat plate to go. The young man cutting meat is slow. Others people came in after me it was a crazy wate inline whenthey were dinning in.
The menue at the hall entrance has no prices for anything they serve. They just expect you to pay what they say the cost is. No price behind the counter also. So you have an idea a 2 meat plate with a small tea is $25 and change. Very high with slow service. Dont belive the sign Old School Texas Way. The Texas Way you respect the customer and his time and provide a good quality product at a reasonable price.

This place had welcoming and friendly staff, the food was hot and fresh. The brisket was moist and all the sides were made from scratch. We had ordered Papa John’s a day before and paid $40 for a cold pizza and wings when we should have came here! We only paid $59 for 3 plates with drinks and the meals were so big we had leftovers! Definitely coming back!

We have noticed this place several times on our travels back and forth between our home Northwest of Austin and our grandchildren in Houston. I always try to be supportive of small, locally owned businesses everywhere I go. Look at some of my other reviews, it will bear this out. For once it wasn’t a Sunday when we were passing by and they were open so we thought we’d stop for lunch. It looks like everything you’d expect for a barbecue place, rustic and country. There was a menu painted on the wall with no prices posted anywhere. They have a nice selection of sides and meats. My wife ordered the 2 meat plate with Brisket and Sausage, Potato Salad and Pintos. I was thinking about Pork Butt; however, when I saw it, I decided to pass . I ordered the Brisket Plate with Black-eyed Peas and Cole Slaw. When the young woman handed it to me it had Pintos on it rather than Black-Eyed Peas. When I cited the error, she indignantly snapped, “That’s what you ordered.” (Who argues with civil, paying customers?) I said, “I’m not trying to be any trouble, I just want what I ordered.”, at which point the older woman told her to give me a side of Black-Eyed Peas, which at that point seemed completely academic. We found a table, found our way to the drinks and also to the barbecue sauce and various condiments. I really wish I could say that this was the best barbecue that I ever put in my mouth but unfortunately, I have to say just the opposite. This is singularly the worst BBQ experience I have had anywhere in Texas. The Brisket was grey, dry and there wasn’t a smoke ring in sight. It was no better than the Pork Butt has looked to me, in fact it was probably worse. My wife loves sausage and she is not as discriminating about it as I am but she said that was the worst sausage she ever bought from a barbecue restaurant in her life and she is the lifelong Texan in this couple, not me. I see mixed reviews out there besides my own and I’m wondering if perhaps the problem here is just inconsistency with the food because other than that and the little service blip, this wasn’t a horrible meal but it was pretty far from a good one. Sorry Nathan’s, I so wanted to like you.

Brisket is really good and the ribs are even better! The sauce is good and compliments both meats well. The beans and potato salad were both good also. Very clean and attractive place to eat. I’ll give this place 5 stars! It’s definitely in the top 1% of BBQ restaurants, not just in Texas but in the lower 48 as well. This was my first time here visiting from La Grange, TX. I’ll be back!!! We were in town for an appointment and saw this place we were hungry and gave it a try. We were pleasantly surprised that the people and food were excellent. I had a sausage sandwich which was some of the best sausage I’ve ever had. And make sure and get the house made potato chips they are seasoned and wonderful.

My family’s go-to BBQ spot while in Brenham. Nathan’s prides itself on traditional Washington County home style-recipes—especially the smoked brisket cooked with their special “mop sauce,” and the tangy, sweet, and savory BBQ sauce—and has been consistently delivering the same excellent quality over the years.

The Monday’s special hamburger steak cooked with sautéed onions and gravy is also quite delicious, but tends to run out quick.

They have a daily lunch special which have always been good. I’ve had the tacos and the chicken fried steak. I decided to get
the stuffed baked potato. I was hoping they would use the chopped meat they used in the tacos, but it was mushy and tasted like the processed mass produced stuff in the grocerystore. I’ll stick to the daily specials. The potato itself was the size of a child’s football for $12+
