Back in 2010, we took a leap of faith and decided to open a taqueria behind our house inspired by the flavors of our hometown. We were the first to serve Nuevo Progreso, Mx – style lonches in the US, and have been serving them with a side of our Mexican Cultura ever since! We are proudly serving in the 956! Our mission is to share the vibrance and joy of our heritage one taco at a time! We believe everyday is a celebration. We are driven by our love for spreading our Mexican culture in an authentic way with our community. Join us for our weekly mariachi nights on the patio, break lonche-bread with friends & family, or come have a margarita on Taco Tuesday. ¡Mi casa es su casa!

It is time for lunch down in the valley, so we headed over to Nana’s Taqueria for some delicious lonches!

Nana’s Taqueria was a fantastic experience! The fish tacos plate was delicious, and the service was top-notch. Even with a crowd, seating was quick for our group. The highlight was the large Arnold Palmer—topped with fresh cucumbers and lemons, it was so refreshing. Great food at a fair price!

A must go place. Clean, charming and well decorated . Plate are filling and tasty. Certain evening entertained by a Mariachis band. Well done to the team. I’ll be back…

The food was okay and service was slow.

We ordered the botana for 2 (had way too much cheese and the meat wasn’t tender) and the shrimp lonches (way too much cheese with toppings that didn’t add much to the dish).

The sell of this place was the restaurant set up and ambiance. It looked like an amazing venue for parties/weddings.

No trip to the Rio Grande Valley is complete without a visit to Nana’s Taqueria, a beloved, family-run Mexican restaurant that truly captures the heart of regional border cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth and tradition that go into every dish.

Nana’s is especially famous for its lonches, a Nuevo Progreso specialty made with seasoned ground beef, fresh bread, and simple toppings that somehow come together perfectly. The flavors are bold, comforting, and unmistakably authentic—exactly how border food is meant to taste. Their tacos are just as impressive, served on fresh tortillas with well-seasoned meats that reflect generations of family recipes.

What sets Nana’s Taqueria apart is its dedication to cultural dishes that stay true to their roots. Nothing feels rushed or mass-produced; everything tastes homemade and intentional. It’s the kind of place where locals gather, families return again and again, and visitors get a real taste of the Valley’s culinary identity.

Whether you’re craving classic tacos, a legendary lonche, or simply want to experience authentic Mexican comfort food, Nana’s Taqueria is a must-visit spot in the RGV.

The place is beautifully decorated in a Mexican style, which is the most attractive thing about it, especially for those unfamiliar with Mexico. The food is good but the variety is very limited. The tacos are gourmet but the prices are affordable. There are plenty of waiters, but they aren’t very attentive to whether you need anything else. They have a shop selling Mexican handicrafts and sweets, which adds to the overall appeal.

Dinner on a Tuesday evening, shared a botana for 2, very tender and juicy chicken as well as fajita, though charro beans are extra and flour torillas are not fresh.
Had a mango margarita it was meh. But the Atmosphere is worth the 20 minute drive for me, ambiance felt like i was in another place, very romantic. Service was very good but not too many people there so i will see how it is when we return on a busier night. Server told us they have Mariachis on Thursday and Friday nights, cant wait.

Food was good and pretty fast, which is what we wanted for an early supper. The courtyard is lovely. Our server spoke full, fast Spanish; I usually know enough to get by, but we could not understand anything he said. He was not bothered by this at all and made no effort to help us. We did our best. ‍♀️ I’m not sure I’d go back.

I’m from Houston so I visited Nana’s Restaurant on Brownsville and tried the fish tacos, queso with chorizo, and fajitas. Everything had good flavor and seemed freshly made, but all of it came out warm instead of hot. The food was tasty overall, and the service was friendly, but I was hoping for the dishes to be served a bit hotter. With a little more attention to temperature, this could’ve been a great meal.
