Food — mostly all phenomenal with only a few area of improvement. Boo & I decided to split some different dishes. We got the Coconut Soup, which was delicious. It comes with lime, so be careful about squeezing too much as it may not even need it. We also ordered the Kung Thod crispy shrimp roll. This was strong, but not a knockout like the soup and the megastar that came last. Be warned: this is very pricey, but SO worth it! Ordered the Pad Kee Mao Ocean and it was absolutely amazing!! It was a Thai dish similar to drunken noodles that had a huge lobster tail (very good size and tons of meat cooked perfectly), many large scallops, and shrimp. The sauce, peppers and vegetables that came with it all came together to make a truly fantastic dish! It’s actually not on the menu, but they were happy to oblige (see value below). Overall excellent food all the way around.
Drinks — really good and tasty cocktails. A lot of unique ones to choose from on the menu. Went with the Bangkok Rose, which was an Asian inspired take on old-fashioned. It was awesome. Be careful, because those will sneak up on you quick :), but superb. Boo went with Pinot Noir, which was fine (little on pricey side for what you get), but almost everything tastes good with this food.
Service — service was superb!! Hostess and server were friendly, prompt, and very helpful. Food and drinks came out very fast and entire staff was very attentive. Make sure to know they charge an auto 20% service fee. As most restaurants, they don’t necessarily heavily advertise that little nugget.
Atmosphere — elegant, classy, and beautiful with lights and colors. Very sheik and you definitely feel first class eating here. Recommend to dress at least business casual, but formal attire works as well.
Value — food was amazing, so well worth it. But be prepared to fork out some dough. But absolutely worth it for a special evening. The cocktails are all pretty standard and $18 (normal for fine dining). The Pad Kee Mao Ocean was $90. Which is lot for one dish and market price be sure to check it, we splurged and split but it obviously was pricey. The only other area for improvement was the Kung Thod, which definitely was not worth $14. Good, but not great, especially for that price. Nothing courageous for a fine dining experience.
Summary — Phenomenal restaurant for Thai and Fine Dining with great food, excellent service and a special experience! Perfect for a special dinner before seeing a show or symphony @ the Atlanta Symphony Hall or High Museum, as it’s walking distance.
Overall, I found this place to be overpriced, and the food misses much of the traditional essence. For instance, my Thai shrimp salad lacked the expected fermentation taste. They seem to cater to American fine dining, which feels like a money pit.
On a positive note, the service was good, and they were quick to clean up our table and replace the napkin. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Be aware that they add an 18% gratuity charge to your bill when you check out, even for just two people.
While it’s worth experiencing, this restaurant isn’t one I would choose to visit frequently.
The staff throughout the night were incredibly sweet, attentive, and consistently checked in to make sure everything was going well. Despite the restaurant being very busy, our appetizers, soup, and salad came out surprisingly quickly. Our entrées did take a bit longer to arrive, but given that it was Valentine’s Day and the restaurant was at full capacity, it was completely understandable.
The food overall was excellent. While the steak on the salad and the lamb chops were slightly overcooked, the sauces paired with them were absolutely exceptional and elevated the dishes. The drinks and desserts were also fantastic and added to the fine dining experience.
I will say that the Valentine’s Day minimum was $125 per guest and I felt it was a bit overpriced, but considering the atmosphere, service, and overall experience, it was still very enjoyable. Nan Thai is definitely worth trying, and we will absolutely be returning again for a regular dinner in the future.
