There was no energy, no entertainment, no fun nothing! The chef didn’t speak a single word, just quietly cooked, did one volcano scene, dropped food on our plates, and walked off. That’s not hibachi, that’s sad. The chicken wasn’t fully cooked, the rice was half overcooked and half undercooked, and the yum yum sauce tasted like straight mayonnaise. Everyone sitting at our table looked disappointed too.
When we called the manager over, he didn’t care at all. His exact words were, “It’s on the chef if they want to entertain but they don’t have to.” So basically, we paid over $100 to sit with strangers, eat bland and unevenly cooked food, and get one quick flame for “entertainment.” The salad was soggy, the shrimp tempura rolls tasted old and mushy, and the veggies were far from fresh.
Honestly, the best thing we had was the Shirley Temple and even that didn’t come with a refill. This place is a complete joke. Management doesn’t care once you’re seated, and the food is not worth your time or money. If you want real hibachi and a fun experience, save yourself the disappointment and go somewhere else. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Overall, the food is delish. I ordered the Nagoya Bento box with the sake sampler and a glass of the house plum wine. All lunch specials are served with miso soup, house salad and steamed rice. I added the fried rice for $3 extra.
If you’re a fan of sake, do get the sampler. It’s really good. The house plum wine is very nice too. I left with a big smile on my face.
And my server Cindy was kind and attentive as well.
I was charged for dinner portions, but I did not receive a dinner portion. I ordered an eight piece dinner portion, shrimp, tempura roll, and I only received six pieces. The sushi was falling apart, and not well made. I also ordered the volcano roll, and the salmon was not fresh. It was stale and hard.
I paid two dollars for a 2 oz. eel sauce, and I only received a very small 1 oz. container. Over a period of several days I attempted to contact the restaurant, only to reach the fax line. Finally, I reached a manager: I requested a partial refund. He argued back-and-forth with me, saying that he cannot help me, that I should have had “common sense” enough to bring the food back that same night. I live in Dallas, the restaurant was in Arlington.
I was spoken to in a very demeaning, deplorable fashion. My issue was not resolved. I will NEVER return to this restaurant, again. The staff has a terrible attitude, and the manager eventually hung up in my face mid conversation.
Warning: Please do not go here.
I was hoping for a more tender steak and a larger portion of vegetables and eggs. Still, this Habashi Restaurant is worth a visit—the space is small and intimate, with just-right staffing. For the sake, I’d love to see a some flavor notes added, as there were none.
