My kids and I enjoyed food in here. I ordered House Platter with shrimp, flounder, oysters, scallops and deviled crab. Plus some chicken tenders and soup of the day – clam chowder.
Flounder and deviled crab were delicious, french fries were under salted. Soup was delicious and very hot.
They don’t have regular water in the soda machine and the soda machine wasn’t dispensing the flavor, just the carbonated water.
The staff was polite and friendly and they had a lady taking orders from the people in line, so it was going faster.

Was recommended to try this place. I ordered 3 Shrimp Platters to split between the family. When I opened the box up, I was BLOWN away by the amount of food per box! Literally, 60+ shrimp per box, a mountain of fries, and a handful of hush puppies. With that said, not one item had seasoning on it. The shrimp were piping hot (good), but had zero flavor (bad). The potato wedges had zero seasoning and the hush puppies were very dry and bland. Yes, everyone has different taste buds, but for me, it didn’t have any taste, just very hot food.
The atmosphere is very good, it isn’t a big place, so it can get cramped really quick. Would I go again, yes, but maybe order something different.

The food is excellent! Its indoor and outdoor picnic table seating, new and clean with plenty of space. Loads of food for a price that will not hurt your pocket. Happy I gave it a try.

The restaurant is located in the NC State Farmers Market. Easy to park. It is settled as a fast food restaurant. The employees in the restaurant are very nice. The food is delicious. The platters are very big, one platter can feed 2-3 persons.

This place has the best seafood around. It’s like being at the beach without going to the beach and they give you a huge portion. I shared it with my husband. We love this place!! ❤️

Good location to stop by after long day walk at State Farmer Market. Good food, good fried seafood around town. Very very huge portions in very reasonable price. Alot of portion that should be plenty enough to feed 2 persons and may be have some left overs for later. However, that may be a result of lacking a touch of flavor. Need to have an extra touch for a taste. But it is acceptable for overall. Restroom are located inside the building as well.

Everything is fresh, hot, and timely. They give you plenty of sauces and the portions are huge. My bf and I could’ve easily just shared one platter in the future. I’m thinking of coming back and trying their cold shrimp. Owners were sweet!

While shopping at all the local vendors, this small spot packs a punch. With a very small limited place to eat, but worth the money. We got the combination plate with 3 meats, and everything was amazingly good and fresh. The amount of food you get can be shared for 2 with this platter. From the catfish to the chicken tenders, everything was seasoned well. I will be going back to shop for fresh fruits and vegetables.

Tried NC seafood resturant for the first time today. I am a born and raised NC boy of 50 years and I know my Calabash seafood well. My fiancée and myself tried a pretty wide variety. Context: My fiancée is Chinese and calabash seafood is somewhat new to her. The amount of food for the price? AMAZING. Good luck finding a better deal. We togather had flounder, trout, shrimp, oysters, and clam chowder. PROs… Clam chowder, flounder, shrimp and oysters. Fantastic. Cons: Trout wasn’t terrible but a bit overcooked. It happens. The food as a whole does lack seasoning, BUT… That is really not a knock at all. Calibashash seafood is very popular among seniors that can’t do heavy seasoning. So I actually applaud it. Anyone can add a little salt and pepper to taste. Will be back soon.

If you’re searching for the quintessential North Carolina seafood experience – without leaving the Piedmont – look no further than NC Seafood Restaurant in Raleigh.

Nestled beside the bustling State Farmers Market, this unpretentious eatery has become a beloved local institution for a reason: the fried Calabash-style seafood is simply delicious, and the portions are as generous as the Southern hospitality.

The heart of NC Seafood Restaurant’s appeal is its mastery of Calabash-style frying—a method that lightly breads seafood, allowing the freshness and flavor of the fish, shrimp, scallops, or oysters to shine through rather than being overwhelmed by heavy batter.

Whether you’re partial to shrimp, flounder, catfish, or oysters, the kitchen delivers each order piping hot and perfectly cooked—never greasy or overdone. The fried oysters and scallops are particular standouts, praised for their juiciness and mild, fresh taste.

One of the most talked-about features of NC Seafood Restaurant is the sheer quantity of food you receive. Even a regular-sized platter can easily feed two hungry adults, while the large combo platters are often shared among three or more diners, with leftovers to spare. Each meal comes with a mountain of golden hush puppies—slightly sweet and oniony—plus thick-cut fries and a side of crisp coleslaw.

Don’t expect white tablecloths or fine dining at NC Seafood Restaurant. The atmosphere is laid-back and rustic, with cement floors and picnic table seating, both indoors and outside. Many guests enjoy the communal tables, which foster a friendly, down-home vibe and sometimes lead to meeting new people over a shared love of seafood.

The service is fast and efficient: order at the counter, grab a number, and your food will be ready before you know it—even when there’s a line out the door, which is a common sight during peak hours.

For many families and visitors, a trip to NC Seafood Restaurant is a must whenever they’re in Raleigh. It’s become a tradition for locals and out-of-towners alike, especially after a stroll through the Farmers Market.

The restaurant’s commitment to quality, value, and that unmistakable Calabash flavor has earned it a loyal following and high praise as one of the best spots for fried seafood in the region.

If you’re craving fried seafood done right—light, crispy, and flavorful—NC Seafood Restaurant is a can’t-miss destination. The portions are huge, the prices are fair, and the food is consistently fresh and satisfying.

Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Calabash-style cooking or trying it for the first time, you’ll leave full, happy, and already planning your next visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a true taste of North Carolina’s coastal culinary heritage.
