Reviews
The filter coffee was hands down the best I’ve ever had. They make it live, the person making it was very attentive- asked about sugar vs jaggery and adjusted the strength perfectly. We tried the ghee podi thatte idly, ghee mini podi idly, sambar idly dipped, chinna vengaya sambar sadham, benne masala dosa, and medhu vadai — everything was excellent. The sugarcane juice was delicious as well. Highly recommend!
The atmosphere was lively and bustling with pretty cultural music playing the background. There were what seemed like an endless amount of samples being offered to people waiting, with generous portion sizes!
My boyfriend and I had no idea what to order so we got recommendations up at the cash register. Out of the three dishes we got, all were good but I really loved the two dishes pictures, melt in your mouth, savory, and really hit the spot. I know they are related somehow to Idly Express in Mountain View, where we had a similarly delicious experience. Will definitely be coming back!
I loved the medu vada, although the Mylapore special dosa did not impress my taste buds.
Service was great, seating is adequate and parking is right next to the place.
Good to have a quick snack.
The ambience is very warm, traditional and up scale. One needs to do booking in advance and still wait for your turn on reaching the place, as the restaurant is crowded even on a weekday.
We ordered mini Podi Idlis, Dahi Wada, Medu Wada dipped in Sambhar, Andhra style Beni Masala Dosa, Uttapa and Masala Dosa for the four of us. The service was quick and friendly. Each item was authentic and very tasty with the right texture and flavours. The Podi Idlis could have been softer on the inside though.
We rounded off our meal with Filter Coffee which was again top class.
All in all it was a lovely culinary experience in a place which could compete with some of the best restaurants in South India!
I love the crowd happily waiting to enjoy the food. I liked the waiting system which let’s the customer ve prepared and plan the visit after reserving online.
I enjoy the small snacks given to all the customers.
We go for rata Cafe sambar idly which is priced $6 . The taste is so authentic when you have it hot.
We do like the tip combo. Kesari will be mouth watering. My toddler son loves it.
He keeps asking some more please:)
Last but not the least is the way customers are attended makes me visual the place often. Chutney, sambar are again offered to tables which i haven’t seen in any restaurants.
Food & Drink Highlights:
The Standouts: The Sambar and Chutneys are exceptional. A huge plus is that the servers are proactive about offering refills for both throughout your meal.
Recommendations: We tried the Mysore Masala Dosai and Sambar Vadai—both were delicious, though the potato masala filling could still be improved.
Filter Coffee: Don’t leave without a cup of their Filter Coffee. It’s highly customizable; you can specify how strong you want it and even opt for jaggery as a natural sweetener instead of sugar.
Service & Logistics:
Wait Times: This location gets very busy, and wait times can be significant. I highly recommend joining the waitlist via Yelp before you arrive.
Attentive Staff: Despite the hustle, the staff is great at keeping your table stocked with sides.
