Our server was kind but seemed new and clueless. After she asked aloud to another staff member if we should be given menus, we looked over our choices and asked about the specials they had that day, which included a chicken philly cheesesteak and biscuit chicken pot pie. We asked the server what ingredients were included, and some listed were inaccurate to what we actually received. For example, the chicken philly did not have mushrooms like our server guessed, and the pot pie did not have spinach. I had also ordered a plain hot latte that was forgotten until I asked about it, but it was promptly brought out thereafter.
Food was mediocre at best. Everything tasted like it came from a can, which I wouldn’t mind if they were a hospital cafeteria and didn’t charge gourmet prices for it. $22 for a sandwich is steep, especially for the quality this one was. Their confusing version of a chicken philly was actually just a regular grilled chicken sandwich on a hoagie roll with tomato, spring mix, and undercooked onions. It did not have the expected caramelized onions and bell peppers that a cheesesteak would have. The pot pie at $16 was basically a can of Progresso soup thickened into a gravy and poured over a thin sliced chicken breast and some stale tough biscuits. A chicken pot pie spin on biscuits and gravy is a fun concept, but the execution here was poor. We wanted to like the food but can not help our disappointment with what we paid for. The food was not at all worth what they billed for it even with the supply shortage due to bird flu. The latte, however, was great and was the best part of our meal.
I would like to come back to this place as they have decent coffee and the staff have acceptable attitudes, but I would avoid the food for a while until better quality ingredients and effort are utilized. I have hope that they can do better.
Also, it was so smoky in there that we left smelling like burning food after just ten minutes. I could smell it on myself all day. Bloom had this same problem when they were in this location, and the smell is still going strong.
I am thrilled to have Myck’s Cafe in downtown Bristol! I know I will become a happy regular and look forward to stopping in throughout the week for coffee or a bite to eat! Thank you for doing this and best of success!
Once we sat we were given waters and cheap paper menus with nothing special on it, just soups and sandwiches. I thought they served something more substantial. We decided the proces aren’t worth the options and went to use the bathroom before leaving. The waitress body blocked us from going to the bathroom until i pointed out that it is weird to physically stop someone from using the bathroom. We got out of there fast. Horrible experience. Snap shot this review while you can, they are threatening to remove it since they can’t handle criticism. Train your staff better.
There was one day i went in alone to try the coffee and there were two young women behind the bar; they were pleasant. The coffee was average at best. That was the only “good” experience I had.
What really stood out was their incredible attention to detail and care for their customers. I accidentally left my leftovers on the table, and to my surprise, one of the managers ran out to catch me halfway down the sidewalk to return them. It’s rare to find such dedication and genuine hospitality these days. I can’t recommend this place highly enough – it’s a true gem!
