I really didn’t want to be harsh, but this isn’t some hopeful, aspiring Italian spot you cut slack to out of goodwill. This is a **Michelin-starred restaurant—every year since 2023**, apparently—so expectations come included. And with that in mind… here we go.

A surprising number of items were **out from the specials menu**, despite being enthusiastically recommended moments earlier. No lasagna. No olive oil pound cake. When half the temptation is imaginary, it already sets the tone.

We ordered the **tagliatelle with fungi**, which arrived as a mushroom convention with a modest pasta garnish. The pasta itself was cooked properly, credit where it’s due, but the dish never really came together—it tasted like components sharing a plate rather than a composed idea.

The **buffalina pizza** was fine. Not bad. Also not remotely memorable, and certainly not something that makes you nod and say, “Ah yes, Michelin.” More like “solid neighborhood pizza if expectations are managed.”

Service was good, but hovered uncomfortably close to the line between attentive and *please let me chew in peace*.

At this point, my only working theory is that the Michelin inspector had COVID and temporarily lost both smell and taste, because it’s genuinely hard to find another explanation for the disconnect between the accolades and the experience.

Not terrible. Not great. Just deeply perplexing—for a place carrying stars this bright.

Had an excellent dinner at Munno Pizzeria. Our server Ellie was very knowledgeable and made great recommendations. We started with the seasoned olives (awesome portion for the price and very tasty!) and the burrata. Partner had the mortadela pizza special and I had the vegetarian pasta dish. We finished off splitting the olive oil cake. Highly recommend!

Picked up an artichoke and guanciale pizza, a lasagna, and a beet salad to go so I could hole up at home and wait out the cold. The pizza was delicious- the crust was airy and the guanciale was nice and salty. Huge bonus that I love artichoke and the briny element on the pizza was really nice. The lasagna is an amazing deal and layered and baked perfectly. The salad was also delicious- it had oranges in it which paired really nicely with the fennel and beets. Overall would definitely order again but next time I’ll probably order a dessert because I saw a nice slab tiramisu on one of the tables and it looked really good. The staff were super friendly and I appreciated them being open on a night like tonight.

Really fabulous time at Munno over the weekend. I hadn’t been since 2020 and was looking forward to returning during a quick trip to Chicago. Our server, Cole, was so friendly and knowledgeable and both explained th menu well and helped make great recommendations. Everything we ordered was fantastic: the chew on the pizza crust, the texture of the bread, the minestrone soup was so flavorful (when was the last time anyone said those words?), the richness of both the lasagna and the tiramisu. So so lovely.

The food is what brings you and it’ll be the staff that will keep you coming back too. Our server, Cole, was so nice and helpful. The pizza we had was so fluffy and crisp, and the sauce complemented the ingredients on the pizza. It wasn’t completely over the top, but flavorful and filling. Stop by if you’re in the area. I’d also make sure you have reservations since they are open for dinner service only.

We go here every time we are in Chicago. The food is spectacular, as is the attention to detail. I can never decide whether to get the pasta or the pizza, and the wine choices are always delicious. Don’t miss the suppli or salads. We have never been disappointed. If you’re lucky enough to get there on a lasagna night, you have no other choice.

Other reviewers seem uneducated as to the Michelin ratings. This is not a “Michelin starred” restaurant. This is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. Excellent food for reasonable prices at an approachable and friendly location. Munno is absolutely that. If we lived here this would be our local.

When you cross the threshold to a restaurant that is Bib Gourmand rated, that comes with a certain expectation. We appreciate everyone is working hard and trying their best, but unfortunately, for this diner (and 3 friends,) it was a bit of a disappointment.

The food was mediocre. 🙁 The chef must’ve had a weight in his hand when he was using the salt. My salad was far too salty, as was the “vegan” pizza. It could be that they feel they need to compensate as I can’t have garlic, but it was still too much for my taste. The pasta dishes weren’t anything special and the portion size were quite disproportionate to the pricing. And charging for bread is so totally bougie.

If you’re hoping to please a wide(r) audience, consider adding at least one non-egg pasta for the vegan crowd. And if by “vegan” pizza, you mean no cheese, please make a better effort, as well as provide some sorbet as a dessert choice.

If you like a really loud atmosphere (think being in a bar,) then ask to be seated towards the rear of the restaurant. Otherwise, be sure to request a table towards the front.

On the plus side, our server Cole was very nice, cordial and professional.

I stumbled upon this establishment from an Instagram reel. It looked delicious, so I had to try it out. We were not disappointed! Every dish was tasty and flavorful. We were seated quickly for our reservation, and appetizers were delivered shortly thereafter. The server let us take out time in choosing our dishes. He was so attentive and advised us on options. The tiramisu dessert with coffee was a perfect pairing for the end. We will definitely be back!
