I’m not an Indian food expert, but everyone else at the table is — and we all agree: Mumbai Katta in Port Chester is the real deal. The chaat and small plates are fantastic, especially the puri and the vada. Crispy elements everywhere, with tamarind, moong, chutney, and sev bringing all the flavor. Simple, punchy, and such a fun way to dive into Maharashtrian street food.

We were looking for a place to eat while we were driving up to Mystic from Long Island and I am so glad we decided to make a stop at Mumbai Katta. This place is a gem, that serves authentic Maharashtrian style food in addition to Indian, Indo-Chinese dishes.
For the first time when we visited it, we were observing a special fasting month, hence we couldn’t try their non-vegetarian offerings. I tend to forget what we ate then , but I do remember everything was top notch.
Owner/Chef Anita came out and spoke with us about her journey, her experience with Kolhapuri and Malvani food. She offered us to try her chakali and shankarpali, which were immaculate. You can place your Diwali faral order with her. Diwali faral is a special assortment of traditional sweet and savory snacks prepared and enjoyed during the festival of Diwali.
Overall we had a really good time at the place and had decided to visit them again to try more of their offerings.
This time when we visited , as we were ordering food, I texted Chef Anita as I was looking forward for another interaction with her but sadly, she had called out sick that day . Surprisingly, very next minute her staff came asking for us and they took really good care of us.
We tried their Chicken keema paav and vada paav which just stole our heart – authentic and comforting, made exactly like its done on the streets of Mumbai.
Next came, Malvani shrimp fry and King fish fry , both cooked perfectly – crispy and flavorful.
Kombadi Vade – rooted in tradition and bursting with bold flavors.
Mutton Biryani – again very satisfying.
Sol Kadhi and Phirni – perfect ending to the flavorful , spicy food.

I must mention, the service was prompt, and the food came out quickly and efficiently.

If you love spice, comfort, and soul-satisfying meals , Mumbai Katta is a place to visit.

The food and experience exceeded expectations. The staff and friendly, casual dining experience is unmatched, with authentic and delicious offerings throughout the menu. Samosas, lassi, masala chai, butter chicken, and every other dish are all delightful. Real Mumbai street food offerings, prepared with love!

We absolutely love ordering from the restaurant and so so regularly. The food is delicious, service is so friendly and the attention to detail on allergies and preferences is very thoughtful. Would recommend 100%

In addition – we also order their tiffin service which is closer to a home cooked meal that they offer for weekly customers. They have a vast menu, reasonably prices and it saves us so much time and hassle by not having to cook. The food isn’t oily, it’s not overly spicy, it tastes very nice, feels light and is perfect for daily consumption. So glad they offer this option!

Great food. A little different from the usually Indian choices you usually find. Tried their batata vada, vada pav and fish fry. All were great. Want to try the fish curry next time

Bring family or fellow foodies to enjoy this great place for Indian street food! This BYOB place is low key & may not have the most or ornate decor but if you are seeking delicious Indian food specialities, look no further than Mumbai Katta! Oh so good & no frills for great tasting food!

Absolutely amazing and delicious spot. Food is so full of flavor and so aromatic. Staff is so kind and thoughtful. While it looks they are more used to take-out, this place is worth it to stop at and enjoy a peaceful and delicious meal

From Westchester Foodies on FB:

I didn’t have to twist Chandreyee and Hardik’s arms at all to get them to accompany me to Anita Gawde’s restaurant, Mumbai Katta, in Port Chester last night. (… even after they had already been numerous times over the last few months.)

I am not an authority on Indian Food, but I trust these two with every fiber of my foodie being. I have dabbled in Indian and Pakistani food throughout the years and last night is tied for my top two favorite experiences. The first was a place called Dosa in SF.

If you love Indian Food, visit this place soon. People from India are traveling hours to eat Anita’s food.

The quality of the food and the service feel like you are an honored guest at Anita’s house.

Even after trying a variety of gorgeous dishes, I walked out feeling satisfied, yet light, but also very happy? I had to Google whether Indian food can make you happy and it can!

FYI it is BYOB.
