For the first time when we visited it, we were observing a special fasting month, hence we couldn’t try their non-vegetarian offerings. I tend to forget what we ate then , but I do remember everything was top notch.
Owner/Chef Anita came out and spoke with us about her journey, her experience with Kolhapuri and Malvani food. She offered us to try her chakali and shankarpali, which were immaculate. You can place your Diwali faral order with her. Diwali faral is a special assortment of traditional sweet and savory snacks prepared and enjoyed during the festival of Diwali.
Overall we had a really good time at the place and had decided to visit them again to try more of their offerings.
This time when we visited , as we were ordering food, I texted Chef Anita as I was looking forward for another interaction with her but sadly, she had called out sick that day . Surprisingly, very next minute her staff came asking for us and they took really good care of us.
We tried their Chicken keema paav and vada paav which just stole our heart – authentic and comforting, made exactly like its done on the streets of Mumbai.
Next came, Malvani shrimp fry and King fish fry , both cooked perfectly – crispy and flavorful.
Kombadi Vade – rooted in tradition and bursting with bold flavors.
Mutton Biryani – again very satisfying.
Sol Kadhi and Phirni – perfect ending to the flavorful , spicy food.
I must mention, the service was prompt, and the food came out quickly and efficiently.
If you love spice, comfort, and soul-satisfying meals , Mumbai Katta is a place to visit.
In addition – we also order their tiffin service which is closer to a home cooked meal that they offer for weekly customers. They have a vast menu, reasonably prices and it saves us so much time and hassle by not having to cook. The food isn’t oily, it’s not overly spicy, it tastes very nice, feels light and is perfect for daily consumption. So glad they offer this option!
I didn’t have to twist Chandreyee and Hardik’s arms at all to get them to accompany me to Anita Gawde’s restaurant, Mumbai Katta, in Port Chester last night. (… even after they had already been numerous times over the last few months.)
I am not an authority on Indian Food, but I trust these two with every fiber of my foodie being. I have dabbled in Indian and Pakistani food throughout the years and last night is tied for my top two favorite experiences. The first was a place called Dosa in SF.
If you love Indian Food, visit this place soon. People from India are traveling hours to eat Anita’s food.
The quality of the food and the service feel like you are an honored guest at Anita’s house.
Even after trying a variety of gorgeous dishes, I walked out feeling satisfied, yet light, but also very happy? I had to Google whether Indian food can make you happy and it can!
FYI it is BYOB.
