We recently visited Mumbai Central in Falls Church, VA with my cousins, and it was absolutely worth the wait. The restaurant only opened a couple of months ago and had been on our radar, so we decided to check it out this past Saturday—and it did not disappoint.

Located in Idylwood Plaza, Mumbai Central is beautifully designed, inspired by Mumbai’s Grand Train Station. The space is spacious, stylish, and inviting, striking a great balance between classic Indian elements and a modern, elegant atmosphere. It’s a place that immediately feels special without being over the top.

We ordered a wide variety of dishes and essentially turned dinner into a full-on tasting experience. For appetizers, we had the Mumbai Coastal Shrimp, Chicken Momos, Chili Garlic Noodles, Pani Puri, and Lamb Chops—each one packed with flavor and beautifully presented. For entrées, we shared Tandoori Chicken, Lamb Vindaloo, Chana Masala, and Biryani, along with Butter Naan and Mint Paratha, all of which were excellent and well-balanced.

Dessert was just as strong, with Gulab Jamun, Kulfi Falooda, and Masala Chai closing out the meal perfectly. On the cocktail side, we tried the Smoky Engine, Mumbai to Goa, and Coolie No. 1, all creative, well-crafted, and a great complement to the food.

From start to finish, the experience was fantastic—great cocktails, outstanding food, and excellent service from everyone who took care of us. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, making it a place you’d want to return to, whether for a special occasion or a relaxed dinner.

Yes, we ordered a lot of food—but nothing went to waste. Everything was just as delicious the next day, which says a lot about the quality.

Mumbai Central is a welcome addition to the area, and it’s definitely a place we’ll be coming back to.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Mumbai Central where we celebrated my birthday with a group of friends. The ambience is absolutely beautiful and the atmosphere made the celebration feel even more special.

We started with Kamal Kakdi Chaat, which was very unique and packed with flavor. The Chicken Malai Tikka was incredibly soft and creamy, easily one of the best starters we tried. For the main course we ordered Chicken Biryani, Malabari Chicken, and Naan, and everything tasted authentic and delicious. The biryani was aromatic and the Malabari chicken paired perfectly with the naan.

The drinks were also excellent. The Smokey Engine had a really nice smoky flavor that made it stand out, and the Old Fashion was smooth and well balanced.

For desserts we had Kulfi Falooda and Molten Chocolate Cake, which were both amazing and the perfect way to end the meal.

What really stood out during the evening was the hospitality. Karthik Sharma, the manager, was incredibly friendly and engaging. He took time to check in with our table, chat with us, and made sure our birthday celebration went smoothly. His warmth and attention made the whole experience feel very welcoming and memorable.

The staff overall were very respectful and attentive throughout the night, which added to the great experience.

Overall, the food, drinks, ambience, and service were all excellent.

What an incredible dining experience at Mumbai Central in Falls Church, VA! My family and I had an absolutely wonderful evening, and I can’t recommend this spot highly enough.
We kicked things off with some fantastic appetizers: the dhokla chaat was bursting with tangy, spicy flavors, the papad was perfectly crisp, the salted lassi was refreshing and spot on, and the pani puri was a delightful explosion of taste. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious!
For the main course, we went all in: warm garlic naan and chilli naan that were soft, buttery, and addictive; creamy saag paneer packed with rich spinach and perfectly spiced paneer; indulgent paneer makhni with its silky tomato gravy; and the surprising standout garlic noodles that were amazingly savory and well balanced. Every dish was executed beautifully, authentic Indian flavors with just the right heat and depth.
We wrapped up with a cozy masala chai that hit all the right spiced notes, a classic fruit custard that was light and refreshing, and an unexpected treat in the molten lava cake, gooey, chocolatey perfection!
The ambiance is truly unique and immersive: the restaurant is themed like an Indian train station, with seating that makes you feel like you’re dining on a train. Such a fun, creative touch that transported us right to Mumbai. It added so much charm and made the whole meal feel special.
Service was impeccable, attentive, friendly, and efficient from start to finish. Our server made sure everything was just right, and the pacing was perfect for a relaxed family meal.
If you’re in the Falls Church area and craving elevated Indian cuisine in a memorable setting, Mumbai Central is a must visit. We left happy, full, and already planning our next trip back. 5 stars all the way!

Our group of experienced ladies dine at the best restaurants in the DC Metro area and we were so impressed by Mumbai Central. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning – you can tell it was designed by a master architect. Elegance is mixed with a high energy vibe – awesome for a date night or a large fun group. The service is spectacular, as is the food, Michelin level. Be sure to taste the chaat, okra, and pani pani. Now beloveds, the only tiny little detail was the lack of music in the bathrooms. While I did not feel the urge this evening, on nights where one might need to relieve one’s self in the second degree, it would be a hospitable asset to be provided with an audible cover for one’s very human transgression. I brought this to the manager’s attention, and he was agreeable. He promised to have the music on by next week. For what more can one ask during these dark times? Five stars!

We had a wonderful experience at Mumbai Central. The interior looks amazing with the train theme. We were seated in the Shatabdi Express section, and it truly felt like dining inside a train coach. Such a unique and fun concept!

The food was excellent. The Chicken Malai Tikka was very soft, juicy, and full of flavor. The Kamal Kakdi Chaat was crispy and perfectly balanced. The Smoky Engine drink was a highlight — the hickory chips gave it a rich smoky flavor that tasted amazing. We ended with Kulfi Falooda, which is our all-time favorite and it was absolutely delicious.

A special mention to our server Mintu — he was very friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect for us. The service overall was excellent and very responsive.

Highly recommend this place for both the food and the experience!

I would say the reason for the 4-star review is because the Mango Lassi did not taste great for me. However, the food and the atmosphere do make up for it. Truly, we had a great time celebrating my cousins birthday!

Mumbai Central Fare has quickly become one of my favorite spots for Indian food in the area. On my latest visit, I had the lamb shank nihari—fall-off-the-bone tender with a rich, aromatic gravy that had clearly been slow-cooked to perfection. I finished the entire shank myself, which tells you everything you need to know.

I’ve also had their tandoori chicken on a previous visit, and it was excellent—juicy, well-spiced, and fresh out of the bhatti. Their chilli-garlic naan was the perfect pairing. The ajwain paneer tikka was another highlight; the paneer was soft, fresh, and creamy, like it had been made in-house.

What really sets this place apart is the staff. Despite how busy they get, everyone is kind, professional, and genuinely warm. That combination of excellent food and great hospitality is hard to find.

This restaurant is a 100-mile trip for me, and honestly? I’d make it every weekend if I could. That’s how good it is. Highly recommend.

Mumbai Central has quickly become my favorite Indian restaurant. The food is consistently delicious, and the quality is honestly unbelievable for the price. I’ve been here many times since it opened, and as a vegetarian, I’m always impressed by how many great options there are.

I love stopping by for masala chai on cold winter days, and their cocktails are perfect in the summer. The samosas, chili garlic noodles, pani puri, and kamal kakdi chaat are my all-time favorites. I’ve also tried several of their entrées, and every single one has been excellent.

I also really enjoy the music selection. It’s calm, thoughtfully chosen, and never interferes with conversation.

The flavors are always spot-on, the service is warm and attentive, and it’s a place I keep coming back to without hesitation.
