I love stopping at Mt. View Bakery whenever I can. Their mochi donuts are fantastic – so many flavors to choose from, and they’re always fresh. A mochi donut and coffee is honestly the perfect combination, especially for the drive.
I’ve also had their pot pies a couple times and they’re really good. I wish I could make this a regular stop every time I head up to Volcano. They get an early start at 6:30 am and are closed by 1 pm. Also closed on Sundays. If you’re in the area, definitely check it out.

I stopped on a Saturday morning when people were literally streaming in from every direction, with smiles on their faces, to get to this bakery! The storefront is barely larger than a walk-in closet, so it was quite crowded. But the kind ladies were super efficient and the line moved fast. I was impressed with their pie selection. They had full size cherry, peach, coconut, and even chicken pies! There were two flavors of butter horns, strawberry cream shortcakes and a half dozen flavors of those legendary mochi donuts. I got a lilikoi cheesecake mochi donut. Boy was it light and delicate, with that nice little bit of chewiness that mochi is famous for. It wasn’t overly sweet. A little tartness from the lilikoi balanced it out perfectly. This bakery is an absolute gem and I can’t wait to come back and try another one of their specialties!

Such a cute bakery with the most delicious mochi donuts. Highly recommend getting here early and trying all the different flavors they offer. We also really loved the butter roles! The staff are super friendly and ordering with them is always a pleasant experience. Cannot say enough good things about this bakery!

Great little bakery to stop in! It was fantastic, the Mochi doughnuts were stunning with a fantastic texture, the peach turnover was perfectly flaky without being gummy inside. The old fashioned doughnut tasted like it had a hint of clove which was a nice surprise! Staff was friendly and welcoming. They answered all our “what is that” questions. Will definitely be back later in the week!

**Get here early if you want croissants. They tend to sell out around 9-10am**
A must visit if coming to Big Island or Hilo. We drove here all the way from Kona twice during our 1 week stay.
Our fav is the original taro mochi donut. All the other mochi donut flavors, though good, tend to be too sweet for our Asian taste. The donuts have such a pleasant mochi chewy texture and are very dense! If you have an air fryer, toast them for a bit and they get all hot and crispy—delicious!
We also love the pastrami croissants.

We got there late morning and there wasn’t much left which was expected. We bought a variety of mochi doughnuts and a danish. They were all very good. Just the right texture and flavors for the taro and chocolate mochi doughnuts but for me the lilikoi was a bit too sweet. Really, the best part was the doughnut itself. Not greasy, not hard like some others I’ve tried. It was moist, mildly sweet, and really fresh. The danish was good too. Soft, buttery, and perfectly baked.
