In 1971, Butch Mordick bought the Mrs. Mike’s Potato Chip Company. Almost 50 years later, Butch happily admits the company has grown beyond his vision. Renamed Mrs. Mike’s Potato Chips, Freeport, Illinois still serves as homebase for the company, although they now have a nationwide customer base. Mrs. Mike’s has operated out of the same building since 1971 – employing six people, including Mordick’s sons, Matt and Dan. While potato chips are still the company’s biggest seller, Mr’s. Mike’s has added new products — such as popcorn and pretzels — that fit well into the mix.

They used to use sunflower oil, now it’s some gross mix of palm oil and soybean oil. The taste is nasty now. I will keep checking the labels when I come across them to see if they come to their senses and changed back . I will miss them, but these are not the chips I knew and loved so much.
Unfortunately, due to govt regulations, they had no choice but to change the way they made these once delicious chips. Oh they are still good, just in a dif way now. Hopefully over time they can find the right formula to get them back to that good “fried in total fat” goodness. It’s sad for the company that the govt stepped in to decide that real ingredients aren’t ‘healthy’ but more additives will be. As a loyal Mrs Mikes consumer, I’m hanging in there & hoping for better chips to be fried!!
