I had a great dining experience at Mr Wong during my visit to Sydney. The restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere and really captures the feel of a classic Cantonese dining house while still being modern and lively.
The food was excellent and a great representation of Cantonese cuisine. Every dish we ordered was well executed, full of flavour, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The roast meats, dim sum-style dishes, and seafood were particularly impressive, and you can tell the kitchen takes a lot of pride in delivering authentic flavours with a refined touch.
Service was also very good. The staff were attentive, professional, and made the dining experience smooth and enjoyable from start to finish, even though the restaurant was quite busy.
Overall, Mr Wong is definitely one of the standout Cantonese restaurants in Sydney. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service — I would happily return the next time I’m in the city.

Mr Wong did not disappoint. We did not have a reservation but managed to get a seat at the downstairs bar in this buzzing restaurant. There is upstairs and downstairs seating, plus bar seating. Booking is recommend, especially on the weekends. Service was very friendly and efficient, the atmosphere great, and although the restaurant was full, it wasn’t too loud and chatting was no problem. They have a great drinks menu with everything from beers to wines and cocktails. The food was amazing, very tasty, simply delicious. Loved the steamed dim sum and the vegetable platter. Asian food at it’s best.

I visited this restaurant because of its interior design, and I really loved how many elements of the heritage building have been preserved. The atmosphere is vintage yet elegant. Each dish has its own character, and while the flavours are slightly on the salty side, they pair very well with drinks. Overall, it was a great dining experience.

Mr Wong (Sydney) is a slick, high-energy venue with plenty of buzz, but the arrival experience didn’t quite match the reputation. Even with a booking, we still had to wait a few minutes to be seated, and the welcome felt a bit transactional rather than warm or personal. We also didn’t get much guidance upfront, the menu wasn’t really explained, and we didn’t feel particularly looked after when we first walked in.
Once we were seated, though, the service at the table was genuinely good. Staff were attentive, efficient, and kept everything moving smoothly without being intrusive.
The food, unfortunately, was average overall. Nothing was bad, but few dishes felt memorable or worth the level of hype the restaurant carries. For the price point, I expected more standout flavours and a stronger “wow” factor, but it ended up feeling like you’re paying as much for the room and reputation as you are for the cooking.
Overall, it’s worth trying for the atmosphere and solid table service, but the entry experience and the food didn’t live up to the hype.

We have been to MR Wong previously where it was an overall wonderful experience, unfortunately not so much this time.
The staff were friendly and certainly accomodating during the lunch service period.
The food was somewhat disappointing though.
The fried rice did not seem to be fried at all, very blonde and little flavour.
The prawn toast was the highlight of meal thankfully, packed with prawn and very flavoursome

Totally amazing! My wife and i went to this restaurant for our anniversary and can i tell you we were not disappointed. We eat at alot of restaurants in Sydney and this spot is in our top 3. The food so flavorsome and amazing with service that can only be complementary to this establishment. We had entrees & mains and could not fault anything, and it was quite difficult to select a favourite as everything was so beautiful. We finished with deserts and couldn’t have been more satisfied. The whole experience was so amazing I booked straight away for Valentines day…………..Management should be proud of how professional all staff manage themselves at this place……..WELL DONE!

Most amazing Cantonese dining experience! We had shrimp, 6 different ways in 6 different dishes, and all were SUPER TASTY and all SUPER UNiQUE! Although a one way 20 hour journey for us to get to Sydney and stumble upon Mr Wongs, this place alone maybe worth the trip back! Highly Recommend.
