Was working out that way and was looking for something unique, found it. Nice sandwich shop. Love the bread.

Go in the front door of ace hardware and turn right to find this place.

The sandwiches here are better than I have had at any sandwich shop. The bread is just the right amount of moist and the toppings are high quality and delicious. Order it warm, I don’t think you will be disappointed.

My wife says the soups she has had here are amazing as well, and one of these days I will test them out myself.

Mister Smith’s is a staple of Vermillion cuisine. I visited this place almost weekly when my husband was in law school 10 years ago. We were driving through and made sure to swing in this weekend. It did not disappoint

Admittedly I haven’t strayed away from the sandwich options because 1) the bread is delicious and fresh and 2) you can endlessly customize. There is a menu of sandwiches but you can also build your own. When you arrive, you simply fill out the sheet of paper with your order and bring it to the cashier to pay.

Some of our favorites: big smith, chicken breast and cheese, club, Southwest chicken wrap.

Dine in has simple tables and chairs off to the side. It can get busy at meal times but the wait is usually reasonable.

You can also purchase a wide selection of breads, pastries/desserts, and drinks. Oh yeah, and whatever else you need because it’s inside a hardware store.

10/10 recommend. I go back every time we are remotely in the area. It’s definitely one of the best places to stop if in town, and don’t forget to buy some bread to take with you.

2 thumbs!
A true hidden gem of Vermillion. Right off the beaten path, hidden away in a hardware store. You would never know it’s there unless you’re a local. The place doesnt look like much but with home made breads, naked treats, and fresh sliced ham for their sandwiches you’d swear you’re in heaven. Forget Paneras overpriced mediocre commercial junk. This is the place.
A college budget friendly place with great food. The seating isn’t much but the soups, sandwiches and friend chicken is amazing with a reasonable price and the portions are amazing. I go there any time I can and recommend it to anyone coming through.

Mr. Smith’s is one of those unexpected gems you’re surprised to find tucked inside an Ace Hardware, right next to the appliance section, of all places. It’s definitely a hole-in-the-wall spot, nothing fancy or flashy, but the moment you take that first bite, you realize it doesn’t need to be.

The food is fantastic. Everything tastes fresh, homemade, and crafted with real care. It’s the kind of place where you end up saying, “I can’t believe this is inside a hardware store,” in the best possible way.

If you’re anywhere near the area (whether you’re shopping for tools or you’re just hungry) Mr. Smith’s is absolutely worth a stop.

I’ve been a regular for years. The staff is fantastic and the food is top notch, most notably the bread. I wish I could explore more of the menu, but the Reuben is just so amazing that I can’t help but order it ~95% of the time. I seriously love this place.

As some of the other reviews say, this sandwich shop is a tad hidden, but it is indeed a gem.
There is signage on the building and at the corner of the street, but from the outside you wouldn’t know there’s a sandwich shop inside.
The ordering system is a little untraditional: you make your selection with markers on paper that are off to the side; not sure if this speeds up the ordering process or not, but if it works it works.
The sandwiches are delicious, I frequently get the French dip and occasionally some soup. Always fresh food and quick service.

Read a review that they had the best breakfast sandwich in SD. They weren’t wrong. Wow! Incredible food. Great service and wanted to back the same day for lunch. 5 stars!

This place is usually great. Unfortunately when I ordered in the 6th, I ordered a plain Jane cold club sub large. I only got half the sub, so I called they told me I can get the other half, and I received a HOT half a sub. I gave up. Don’t know how that got so confused

Went here on a recommendation. It took forever for the food to get made even though it wasn’t that busy. The people behind the counter were more interested in conversation than making good sandwiches. While the sandwiches were good that’s where it ends. All of our sandwiches were really short on meat and the prices are very high. Probably will not go back.
