Soup broths with a large selection of ingredients presented in a chic, modern dining space.

Wow, I don’t normally like hot pot restaurants, but this one is the exception. Exception. The staff was extremely helpful and made sure our food and glasses were always full. The selection of soups and broth typic from is what made the difference in this experience. They were all extremely good. The selection of appetizers in itself is worth coming for. This is a must if you’re looking for a good experience and great food!

Love this place! Especially late night $5 sushi, make sure to get here early it’s only for the first 30 people. Favorite rolls are Call 911, Titanic, Rainbow. The staff is great, please be nice to them!!

I usually don’t write reviews, but the service we received today was so bad that I felt I had to leave one. Around 7 p.m. today, five of us went together, and our server’s name was Edward. Even though we arrived, it took about around 10 minutes before he took our order. The restaurant was not busy at all. After that, he never came back—not even once—to clear empty plates or refill our water. When we asked to clean plates, he told us to wait for a moment, but only came back much later.
This was the worst service I’ve ever experienced at any restaurant. I didn’t want to leave a tip, but since we were a party of five, an 18% gratuity was automatically added, so I had no choice but to pay it. If the restaurant owner sees this review, they seriously need to retrain this server. I have attached the receipt to support this review. I never want to visit this place again.

This was our first time ever going to a Japanese hot pot restaurant, and Mr. Shabu absolutely blew us away. I took my family and everyone loved it.
The staff was incredibly friendly and took the time to explain how everything worked and what they recommended, which made the experience fun and stress-free. The food was amazing, fresh, and flavorful, and the whole tableside cooking experience was something we really enjoyed.
From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience. We had a great time, left very full and happy, and we will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!

Full 5 stars for me. I didn’t expect to find such fine Shabu place in Salt Lake City. Mr Shabu rivals some of great shabu places I’ve been to in LA and Vegas.
My favorite broth is the Spicy Tonkatsu. It’s not on the menu, but you can ask the server to make it spicy. Going with appetizer sampler as suggested by server was a great choice. We got to try out all of them without overloading and still got to focus on the some good protein.
Great meat and sauce selection. Beef was slice very thinly, perfect for shabu while remaining tender.
Definitely a place worth revisiting.

Stumbled onto this fun restaurant after going to a show at Wiseguys on a Friday night. Was lucky enough to be one of the first 30 in for their $6.77 a plate sushi. Not only a great value but delicious. My favorite roll was the Alaska Roll. My husband enjoyed the Vegas and the Glory rolls the best. Would recommend if your in the area and craving sushi

Mr. Shabu at The Gateway in Salt Lake is like if cultural appropriation went to therapy and came out as Asian fusion: healed, flavorful, and slightly confused. Also, possibly, bi-curious?
It’s a hot pot fever dream where your chopsticks are your wand and the broth is your house elf. The vibe screams “we read one article about Japanese cuisine and now we’re experts,” and honestly, I respect the confidence.
I have the same confidence when trying to show my son how good I am at long boarding, then I bomb a massive hill and end up in the hospital but at least I look cool doing it.
Some of the meats looked like they were daring me to eat them, and naturally, I accepted the challenge. Is that beef? Is that pork? Is it sadness wrapped in soy? Gimme!!
Who knows and that’s why I love it. I didn’t realize I was supposed to cook the wagyu until I was four servings deep and already giving a TED Talk to the table next to me about turtles and how they eat their babies sometimes if they need a snack before dinner.
Now I’m just worried my intestines are going to file a formal complaint with my stomach, Jesus help me. 10/10 turtles!

Awesome experience, our server Clint was on it and was constantly refilling my soda. Poor dude refilled it probably 6 or 7 times. The food was also really delicious, I had the spicy hot pot with A5 Wagyu and it was very good. The fries were very fresh and good. Thanks for a great experience!

I recently dined at this lovely place, that offers an all-you-can-eat experience. You start by choosing your own soup base, and then you get a personal pot to cook in. The restaurant has a variety of meats and a salad bar with plenty of vegetables and other items to choose from. Overall, the price is quite reasonable, and the atmosphere is nice. The servers were very friendly, constantly checking in on us to see if we needed anything. The food was of good quality, and we had a great time! Will return and recommend others to try out.

We had such a great experience at Mr. Shabu at The Gateway! We stopped in for their late-night $5 sushi special— which was an awesome deal. Everything was fresh and delicious.
Our server, June was incredibly personable, friendly, and attentive.
